Travelling light.

Recommended Posts

I need a bit of help. We are off to Egypt soon & only have 15kg allowance for our suitcases.

I need to know whats best to take clothes wise & how I could possibly mix & match a bit. Going for 2 weeks. Temperature between 24 - 27 degrees. I need really lightweight clothing - bare minimum & I don't want to be buying clothes there. Having a trip to primark, peacocks & tkmaxx next week - so can pick up my £1 vest tops. :D

Hope you can help. What do cabin crew pack when they are staying for a few days in these countries?

Definitely colour co-ordinate stuff. And stuff that you can dress up and down for day or night time.

Count out your clothes - make sure you do have enough for each day and a few spare, but not enough to last 6 months...

I know you don't want to buy stuff out there - but toiletries are heavy, so you could buy showergel/shampoo etc at the airport on the way out (so not taking it through security) so it's not eating up your weight allowance.

Shoes can also be heavy. If you are like me, try and remember you don't need a different pair for each day! Wear one pair, and pack two more - and you should be fine!

Think about what you are planning to do, and pack clothes accordingly. i.e. if you are not planning on going to posh restaurants, don't pack your evening dress! (OK, unlikely, but you know what I mean!)

Have a fantastic holiday!!

Look for cheesecloth or crinkled cotton - it weighs nothing, is cool, dries in a sec & doesn't need ironing.

You can get a multi purpose shampoo /shower gel,Crocs flip flops are light too

And wear as much as you can on the plane!

Be harsh when packing,& assume you will need to wash & re wear everything (2 teen girls, so lots of experience at this!)

Bear in mind the culture in Egypt, vest tops or shorts are not going to be ok in many places especially Cairo (if you are going there) so do double check

Those polycotton blouses that are 'crinkled' and dont need ironing are great or cotton lightweight blouses may be a good idea, they are both quick to dry if you need to wash them too

Short trousers (below the knee) are easy to get hold of (in season) and easy to pack by rolling them up

I'd go for tech fabrics that can be easily washed and dry overnight. That way you can get by for weeks with only 2 or 3 t-shirts or vests, a lightweight washable jacket, a pair of trousers and a skirt or dress. You don't need to take something for each day provided you have a bottle of travel wash.

Most of the stuff by Rohan, for example, is very lightweight, very compact and can dry overnight and doesn't need ironing to look smart. I'd avoid cotton - hard to wash and dry and doesn't wick sweat away from your body so you stay hot and sticky all day. Man-made fabrics are much better, provided you get good quality. Remember a hat, or scarf to cover up when required.

We have been skiing for two weeks with only 20kg allowance that included our ski boots (which weigh at least 5kg), socks, jackets, trousers, gloves, helmet, goggles and everything, so there was no room left for anything else. You have to take very little and be prepared to wash stuff while you are there.

Depends what you are doing and where you are going - eg coast can be windy at this time of year, cairo cold, luxor lovely. If staying mainly in beach resort, you won't need much, but if going sightseeing, better to be more covered, but take 1 pair comfy shoes if doing tombs etc (wear on plane!) Most hotels provide beach towels as well as room towels which saves a bit of weight.

last 2 years we only had 20kg allowance to greece, if you buy lightweight stuff you can get alot of clothes for that weight. Shoes and toiletries are what weigh alot and suncream.

For new york we get

Adult/Child baggage allowance - Two pieces of luggage per passenger, each weighing up to 23kg (50lbs).

have to keep rereading this as sure thats too much!!
