Please tell me NO!

Recommended Posts

I keep secretly toying with the idea of getting two more hens, please pursued me not to!

I have six girls (started out as four) who are all happy together, in a cube with a 3m run, two are laying. So why do I want more? Well, I guess the bug has bitten again, I fancy a couple different breeds and colour's, as well as a few more eggs.

This is dangerous because it sound like it becoming a 'collection' and I get rather carried away, if I got two more it wouldn't be long before I wanted another two and then another two, you get the idea! I would need to get another extension run for the cube and it would eat up more of the garden, which isn't huge. I haven't verbalized my thoughts yet to OH, but I'm close.

I don't need the worry of new introductions to the flock, but I am weak willed and need a stiff talking to! :shameonu: If we move in the near future to a place with a bigger garden then this is the time I know - but why am I always thinking about chickens, eating my breakfast, last thing at night - counting chickens to drop off to sleep... etc! I sure I've even started to cluck in my sleep, I have 'chickenitis' is there a cure? :D

I'll tell you NO if you tell me NO 'cause' I'm the same keep reading all these post about new additions to flocks and I want more. I've got the room, the run is going to be altered this year as part isn't a WIR I've got a small broody type coop and run doing nothing

I've got 5 started with 3 lost one added 3 was only going for 2 but couldn't make my mind up

I think you are on the wrong forum!

Maybe go onto a cat or a dog or hamster forum - they might be able to persuade you not to get any more  I have to avoid coming in here - my maximum was always supposed to be ten, but I've had 14 for the last 2 years. However numbers have been slowly dwindling and I'm back down to 11. And I'm back in the chicken section :anxious: *Must go and look on another forum quick*

i cant tell you no when i too have the bug  i think it is becoming an epidemic  i have just sold my (orange eglu) to make way for my (cube purple) which is arriving on 3rd feb :D:D

my OH thinks the (cube purple) is for "big bird" the orp, who cant possibly be left in the (pink eglu) run when we are on holiday  so he ordered me the (cube purple) with extended run as i keep saying how cruel it will be to shut them in for a week when they free range all day long

however, with only 4 chucks and all that room in the cube and a spare (pink eglu) for intros :whistle::lol::lol::lol:

I need ideas how to add more hens without spending a fortune

Wish I knew too  ...............But if anyone does know

In answer to the original question, I agree that you need a bigger run but that is all the help I can be.

I started with 4 and a cube, am now up to 12 and a WIR, and am already considering hatching and buying a new Eglu and run ( :shh: Don't tell my OH yet  ) for this year.

Chickens are very very very addictive, and sadly there are no rehab groups to help you

NO, don't do it. Just look at other peoples pictures of hens and make a list of the breeds you like. Wait till Spring to make a decision.

p.s I want an appelenzer

p.p.s. I keep reading about DUCKS. I am obsessed and also need help, especially as my garden might not be big enough and I will never be able to go on holiday again.

Dont do it, until you have made you mind up which breed you want, that should take about 15 mins.

I am getting a WIR built soon and have not mentioned to hubby yet but keep thinking we could get 2 little girls to add to our gang of exbatts.

I will be watching to see what you do

I think I must be feeling a bit down at the mo, cause i'm going to say 'Don't Do It' and i mean it!

Chooks are wildly obsessively 'collectable'. I started with 6 in a cube, then another 3 in an eglu, then another 3 in another cube, then hatched two lots more, then built a WIR for a separate group. My garden is a disaster, the chooks have taken over, it's really difficult to plan to go away anywhere and try to get someone to look after them and i sort of long for the days when it was just the 6 in the cube!

and I still long for more! Your obssesive 'itch' will never NEVER be sufficiently scratched (unless you are superhuman and on the wrong forum  )

.....another of the "3 chooks and an eglu 18 months ago" brigade here, though I seem to have shown more restraint than Laurmauf, Tom & Redwing at least.............I'm just wondering about a few more pekins to add to my mobile pompoms..............just as much help as the other aren't i!?!?!!?

Laurie, I can understand the reasoning behind the no, and I agree wholeheadedly........but my heart is hankering for more..........if the question had been asked at Christmas I'd have been the first one to say no, but the snow's gone & the sun's come out since then............
