Soaring cost of food

Recommended Posts

There doesn't seem to be any pattern to what has gone up and what down. Some veggies up, some down; some starches up, some down; some meats up, some down. Does it depend on what offers are on that week, or what the weather was like or what?

PS If you look closely, it is not the biscuits that have gone up the most, its the beef mince, up 120%.

Yes, I noticed that too - and noticed it in real life. I use Quorn mince now, as it is cheaper.

The mince I buy hasn't changed in price at all, but I do buy it from the local butchers. I still pay £1.40 for a lb

I noticed last year that rice has shot up in price, and the big bag we used to buy of Long grain rice they no longer do.

I would say that my butchers steak mince has not gone up any and it is better than the supermarkets stuff as they buy local carcasses

My organic meat has gone slightly up in price from my Farmer, however, my veg from my Organic veg man has gone slightly down. The one thing that has gone up A LOT is my fish from my fishmonger. So we are eating less fish than we were

As for "Supermarket Staples" as I make everything from scratch (bread, sauces etc) I haven't noticed any changes in prices.

Didn't notice that!

We eat only Quorn (half veggie ) too so wouldn't know - at the farm the turkey prices stayed the same from last year I think, but lamb increased from £5 for half a lamb.

I bet the 120% hasn't gone to the farmer

I've noticed that the volume is reduced for lots of things now, although the cost is the same or more. Result - I don't buy that product any more. Nearly got caught out with milk when it wasn't in pints but in litres - thought oh that bottle's smaller. And yes I agree my weekly shop has gone up by quite a lot. No more coke, sweets, crisps - anybody wanting those will have to get their own. Mind you - it's better for me - can't sneak treats when they aren't there - I've been biting my nails and getting ratty though.

 I'm wise to that - I even pointed it out at another supermarket, saw them remove the item with the sale tag on - then they put it back on the shelf when I moved away - because I went to look again before I left. Very naughty.

What happens if you want two anyway? You'd have to check your till roll and insist you didn't want the special offer and make sure you were charged 2 x 79p :!:
