Guest
I'm going to perform one of me poems at a Valnetine's day poetry slam and we're supposed to go "romantically attired". I need ideas please. I don't want to spend money on a new outfit so ideas to adapt things I have already would be useful but where to start!!???? Nothing too cheesy please, in fact the more abstract the better I feel! Anyway, hit me with some ideas!
Redwing
You could carry off an art deco dress and cigarette holder look Or add big bell sleeves to a floaty dress?
whoopsie
I would go for elegance - a long evening dress, gloves etc. Be Beautiful!
BeckyBoo
New Romantic!! Duran Duran BIG shirts!!! (just kidding, I'll go back to FB now....) BeckyBoo
Lesley
I would go for elegance - a long evening dress, gloves etc. Be Beautiful! I agree - and the Art Deco look as Tash has said would really suit you.
Sheilaz
...do you still have your gorgeous wedding outfit? Definitely romantic.
chickencam
Yes I have seen your wedding picture, very elegant You can't get much more romantic than a wedding dress.
majorbloodnock
All the romantic moments my wife and I have shared have crept up on us at the most unlikely times. Therefore, why not wear the jeans, wellies and marigolds you use to clear out the chickens, but with a cupid arrow through the heart? Let's face it; OH loves the real you, so why hide it behind the war paint.
Jules.
MBN Poet, you'd look lovely in your wedding dress x

Guest
thank you for the lovely comments but I'm saving my wedding dress for when I go on a cruise I was thinking of maybe cutting out a big heart shape in card and pinning it to my sleeve as the poem I'm going to read is a bit 'heart on the sleeve' sort of stuff. I dunno though any more ideas? The only fancy dress items I own are a zorro hat and a zorro mask (a la Amelie). Not sure how I could use those though
Alis girls
What about one of those old fashioned floatey nighties - top to toe job - very Jane Eyre - you would look like a lady in love. If you have long hair a plait would add to the look as they always seemed to sleep in plaits ( well they do on the telly )
Chickendoodle
Difficult! Why not get a top with hearts on it that you would be able to wear after. Or get a plain t shirt and draw lots of hearts and and arrows with a fabric pen? Or get a romantic picture of you and hubbie printed onto a t shirt?? (or failing that George Clooney would do) Don't know if the aim if the evening is serious or jokey as you would feel a bit of a prune if you wore something silly and everyone else was in evening wear
craftyhunnypie
What about a Juliet (As in Romeo & Juliet) sort of dress - or Greek Godess sort of look? Emma.x
Valkyrie
I sleep in plaits - or one down the back. Romantic it isn't because OH hates long hair. Mwahahaha But if you have an old sheet to hand, why not make a toga of sorts. If you could get hold of some gold ribbon you could gather the sheet on your upper body, crossing the ribbon to hold it in place - then you have a rather Greek look. Or if anybody has an old crinoline style wedding dress they can lend you, you would look rather fetching as a southern belle Scarlet O'Hara style. Or like Brief Encounter - suit and hat with gloves. Guest
thank you for the lovely comments but I'm saving my wedding dress for when I go on a cruise Ooohh, a cruise not for a while yet, gotta save up! I would quite like to go as a Miss Haversham style character but don't know anyone with an appropriate style dress, wonder if I could try freecycle
Cooks
a Scarlett O'Hara style dress would work too
Valkyrie
Hmmm lots of lacey tablecloths for Miss Havisham's outfit.
chickenNutter
Am I missing something here? I thought Miss Haversham was a wrinkly old bitter twisted dried up old stick! When I read the title of your first post Poet, my mind immediately went the Anne Summers route But I suppose that is not entirely appropriate for a poetry reading. I think The Major's idea is absolutely bang on, and just confirms what I already suspected that beneath that cool analytical and cultured exterior, The Major is an absolute cuddly sweetie! majorbloodnock
Am I missing something here? I thought Miss Haversham was a wrinkly old bitter twisted dried up old stick! ....gravitating to that particular existence as a result of a profound and persistent love. When I read the title of your first post Poet, my mind immediately went the Anne Summers route But I suppose that is not entirely appropriate for a poetry reading. Depends on the poetry, I suppose. It has to be said that a fair proportion of classical literature - poetry included - is pretty lurid even by today's standards. Poet could easily claim "artistic merit" if she wanted to be carried into the function covered by nowt but a bath full of asses milk. Actually, there's an idea..... . I think The Major's idea is absolutely bang on, and just confirms what I already suspected that beneath that cool analytical and cultured exterior, The Major is an absolute cuddly sweetie! Lies, all lies, I say! Except for the cuddly bit. That might be true. Rather too close to the truth, if we're being honest about it..... Happy chickens!
Your wedding dress would have looked the part, but understand you're saving it. Wear anything pretty, but have flowers in your hair - would have said a rose between teeth, but might be hard to read the poetry then!! ChirpyChirpyCheepCheep
What about. . . Long black dress, long black or red gloves, red boa, perhaps red band round top head with flouncy feather sticking out (Charleston sort of style) table by the side with candleabra or very tall candelabra (can't make up my mind which way to spell it). . . Not sure if it that romantic, but just a thought. Chirpy x
