Sedation after effects - advice needed

Recommended Posts

Hi Chaps,

Combined knowledge and experience of Omleteers needed!

Yesterday I had IV Midazolam for sedation as I had a Colonoscopy. I was told that I shouldn't drive, drink alcohol etc etc for 24hrs.

Today, I have been having dizzy spells, and am feeling quite drowsy. (I also have some abdominal pain but thats to be expected!)

I am supposed to be back in work tomorrow, so can anyone tell me how long these symptoms last, and will I be OK to go to work tomorrow?

The nurse seemed surprised that I was only planning 1 day off work after the procedure.

Thanks

(Oh and they weren't able to complete the procedure, so I have to go back and repeat the experience in a few weeks :anxious::roll: )

Oh heck, that doesn't sound like fun at all :?

Personally I would give it another day ,until you are feeling back to your old self.

Last time I had a general (not the same thing,I know, but anyhow....) I was woozy for days afterwards.

I am sure someone with medical experience will be along soon :D

In the meantime...REST!!!

I had Midazolam for a gastroscopy.

After weeks of worry it was wonderful, I remember nothing :D

I had the procedure at 10 and was on my way home at 12.30 feeling nothing but a little light headed (low Blood Pressure)

My BP was low till about 6, I slept like a log and was wide awake the following morning.

Poor you, having to go back though :(

I think people react differently, but I'm one who takes days to recover from any medication. I've always pushed myself to return earlier than I should - then regretted it, so I'd give yourselve a day or two extra. You're worth it!

PS think of the extra chicken watching you can do!

Oh Debs, take another day or two off work at least! :shameonu: Im not a medical person so cant help you with the tecky stuff, but I am a person and as such know that we are all different and react differently to different things!. I cant take Piriton for example, it completely wipes me out

You have had a medical procedure and should take heed of what your body is telling you. Do not go back to work before you feel ready, or, as Tricia said, you will probably regret it. Give you and your body a chance to recover.

Thats an order, Aunty Sandie says so, I will write you a note if you need one

Medazolam can last a long time, or can wear off quite quickly - people vary. I know when I've had sedation for an operation (done under regional anaesthetic, not GA), I've been woozy for more than one day. If you aren't feeling right today, then take another day before going back to work.

:talk2hand: Stop!!

If you still feel icky woozy now then I would say you need a "clear" day of feeling ok before driving/goign back to work!!

I prescribe duvet day on sofa with a good book (twilight anyone?) and then if you feel ok at feeding time at the zoo...sorry feeding time in the WIR then we will alllow you back to work on Thursday :)

Ahem you are not going out tonight it's cold and we don't want to add more troubles to either end now do we? :shameonu:

My brother had one of those - he has IBS, but I can't remember what he was given. I think he was back at work the following day, but as he is normally a pain in the bum, any after effects weren't noticed. I believe my neighbour had something similar done the other year - she was having gyney tests and that was part of a never-ending ruling out check list. I think she had a rough time with our docs and went private eventually - and it wasn't anything to do with her rear (although she appreciated the all clear there). I'm sure she had to rest up afterwards for a couple of days.

So rest up young lady or Cookie will be after you.
