Charlottechicken
Anyone use these? http://www.qvcuk.com/ukqic/qvcapp.aspx/app.detail/params.item.554018/walk.yah.UKGD-U085 They seem pretty tough, the chap on the telly hammered a nail into a plank of wood with one they are also waterproof and they float! It was the bit about holding the charge that got to me, how many times do you pick up a torch and the batteries are flat, just when you need it
Mrs Frugal
I've got one of these - http://www.thetorchshop.co.uk/freeplay_wind_up_torch.html but it doesn't hold charge well at all. Our garden is tiny but it's run out by the time I've reached the chicken run no matter how hard I wind it. Some others have found theirs much more reliable though. Mine's either dud or I need a different brand one.
Mel (& Paul)
We are thinking about getting one - so any advice as to a good brand would be really helpful
Guest
DS was given a wind-up torch for Christmas and I have been very impressed with it. The light is very bright and seems to last a long time. I don't know where it is at the moment, so can't look at it, but I don't know what make it is. It isn't like Kate's and I can't see the QVC one. Not much help sorry, but when I find it I will post. The Dogmother
I got a great one from Robert Dyas, it has the option of either 1 or 3 LED bulbs and holds the charge well too. It is very similar to this one
Guest
That looks like DS's! It's excellent.

The Dogmother
They are good and save me having to root around for batteries when the other one was always running down. What I'd really like is a rechargeable torch that plugs onto a solar-powered recharger.
Mel (& Paul)
When I told Paul that we should get a wind up torch he asked whether it just sat in the cupboard saying "cor aint you got fat!". He then had to admit hearing that "joke" on Radio
AnnieP
I've got one, made by the RAC ( ) and it is also a wind up mobile phone charger. Awesome.

I fancy one of those trickle chargers to keep the car battery topped up.
Elaine C
I've recently bought a lantern style wind up jobbie. Holds the charge and also a choice of 3 settings. The good thing about this one is I can put it down in the run whilst rummaging under the girls for their eggs when I get home in the dark. I got it from a place called coopers of stortford http://www.coopersofstortford.co.uk/ Though I do like the idea of a windup mobile telephone charger - do they work? Carolinep
I got a great one from Robert Dyas, it has the option of either 1 or 3 LED bulbs and holds the charge well too. It is very similar to this one Thanks Claret, just what we need for our boating jolly on the Broads at easter. Will get 1 or 2 next week, OH wonders what we need them for
Mel (& Paul)
I'm going to suggest we use them at work. We have a kit of overalls, boots, goggles, hard hats, ear defenders etc (boy am I glamerous or what..........) and a torch - except we use it so infrequently that the batteries always run out

ChookieCaz
I bought a wind-up torch (I think it was Aldi) and find it useful, although I don't think it holds a charge for as long as I would like. However, if you buy a more expensive one, I would think that should work better. Before Christmas, I bought a torch that you shake, but that one was very unsatisfactory and I had to get my money back. I don't know if perhaps it was a dud and maybe should have been bought from a different type of retailler. It has enabled me to be much happier with the wind-up one. If anyone gets one of the solar triple-chargers to place on the dash-board, please let us all know how you get on.
Charlottechicken
Just thought I would update on this. I bought the pack of two wind up torches from QVC and they are really good! I have had mine for a couple of months now and have just switched it on. The original charge is still there . They were charged up when I got them and I gave mine an extra couple of turns on the handle. Mum got the other one as a mothers day gift and she loves hers too. The light has a blue tinge to it which means it tends to shine a realistic light on everything, like daylight, rather than the yellowy glow you get with most battery operated torches. In pitch darkness you can light a whole room up, albeit dimly, but you can see everything. Beware of shining behind furniture though, I found lots of dust I already have a lovely solar/wind up radio, which never needs winding, but I must admit I would quite like a lantern/radio/mobile charger one if there is such a thing.
