Alis girls
Its actually quite sad as our lovely language is being eradicated with rubbish, however I try to keep up with things - a dictionary for parents of teenage text talk would be useful. Love the blue smiley Scramble - cool innit oh sorry - spiffing isn't it?
Chucky Mama
I am horrified at the number of 20 somethings that can't actually spell some words other than in their text form. I have had some letters and more formal emails littered with text speak. It's a bit of a worry innit.
Chook n Boo Mum
Just received an email from my DS.....who is sitting 6ft behind me plugged into his laptop requesting that I "plz watch (an ebay linky thing)" I emailed back "please go & get your sister xx".......strangely no response Communication is dead & buried in our house Sha x
Geoid
I too try and use proper punctuation, grammar and spelling in my texts, emails and instant messages. Its *not* that hard (I'm dyslexic too, so I have to make more of an effort) . Although, I read an article that some young people do not know when they should be talking slang and when they should be talking formally. Lavenders_Blue
I don't get text language at all, it's like some kind of patois It takes me 3 times as long to write a message in text speak as my phone uses predictive text. In fact... don't most phones use predictive text now, so I don't see how it can possibly be quicker for anyone to use text language?! (oh I must be getting old )
Scramble
My predictive text includes the slang

Valkyrie
After being ridiculed over writing "C U L8R" to Erin, I usually write normally - takes me just as long either way! And just as well you provided the translation - I thought it sounded like your son had invited his friend "skit skit" around to your house! Awww Scramble. Oh how I love "spiffing" - haven't heard it in ages. Think you should bring it back NochucksyesIhavenow.
Alis girls
Believe I still don't know what it means "skit" - I mean I use "skittish" to describe our moggie who jumps at her own shadow bless. Laugh out load
Daphne
I use text speak because I find it so hard to text in the first place that anything which gets me off the phone quicker is gr8
craftyhunnypie
I use a bit of text speak. Things like ..luv u, plz, thx, lol. Most people know all these. I don't like all the innit & blood. I mean what on earth does blood mean in street / text talk? That sort of talk just reminds me of a rapper! Me & hubby have a few words which we love using, but they are not text talk - we just love squiffy, piffy & twonk. Emma.x

Space Chick
I insist on sending real words in text messages, my only exception is LOL - I leave it for the recipient to work out if I mean Laugh out Loud or Lots of Love - could be an embarrassing one that
patsylabrador
Has anyone else seen the Ross Kemp documentary in America about a gang called the Bloods who refuse to use the letter 'c' and swap it for the letter 'b', so they'll maybe have a bup of boffee. I missed why they do this. Silly boys with guns. The sad thing was that they were intelligent young men except that their only aspiration was to join a gang. Chook n Boo Mum
I insist on sending real words in text messages, my only exception is LOL - I leave it for the recipient to work out if I mean Laugh out Loud or Lots of Love - could be an embarrassing one that A friend's hubby is known as Lol...and I had a text misunderstood when I finished it off "lol xx"....Mrs thought I was planning something with hubby & got very upset.........couldn't have been further from the truth & luckily all is sorted & caused much hilarity once I explained the "translation" Sha x
Scramble
People like to say the text words in real life though...I always laugh at something funny...other people say 'lol' then laugh. Which then makes me laugh more. Oh it's a strange world. I don't like 'Wuu2?' I think it's just weird.

ladyjulian
Init - Isn't itBlood/Blud - A person Specifically, a person who is a very close friend (blood brother). Replaces the Ali G "me homies." Amusing moment on the 73 bus: group of schoolboys get on in posh looking uniform (blazers, stripy ties) and make for the back seats. They're all obviously quite well off lads but are making a real effort to sound street, resulting in one of them coming out with the immortal words: "eeeeeey, 'as ya done ya latin 'omework, blud?" You'll have to imagine the glottal stop in "Latin."
Saronne
Anyway, bluds, don't we all use a bit of text talk on the forum? e.g. OH, DS, YS, YD, DH, Lol, x Plus all the emoticons... My children are bi-lingual; they can do perfect text talk AND they're great with real English grammar and spelling, too. Perhaps we, too, could learn both.. Language evolves, innit? figarogir1
My 14 year old even speaks in text speak when he can get away with it. It drives the rest of the family (including a 15 year old) mad I would much rather he laughed than said LOL! The older one texts me in proper english now because he knows that it is the only way I will pick him up and that is the only reason he can see to bother to text me
