Sooo much pooping

Thought i would share a picture of my girls new run, my brother helped me make it to keep the girls off of the mud bath that was my lawn.

 

What do you think about it?

They seem to have settled in well and only a couple of escape's so far lol.

To be fair it never was a good lawn, but it did grow well and the bad weather this year just made it into a mud bath, i'll post more pics when or if the lawn recovers.

1st step is complete though, took 2 days to dig and rake, but the seed is now sown and hopefully the canada green lawn seed is as good as the reviews!

Thanks i hope so, view was even better before i had to put fence up. didn't initially want a 6 ft fence but i have the neighbours from hell so i thought i would get it as high as i could so i could not see them lol

having a run or a fenced off area is really a good idea for those of us with small gardens!

 

you really can have a nice garden AND chickens. This was taken shortly before we got our cube and eglu but we still have the same run...and lots of grass!

I like your covered WIR i admired them for a long while, though i dont think it would suit me as i have 12 girls who would make it look a mess in no time,

What have you got on the floor and how often is it changed?

 

though i am toying with the idea of maybe putting a roof on some of my run, but it has cost me enough as it is though as i am typing this i am thinking if i could attach ......to be continued...

we use aubiose in the run, on top of soil. it gets changed approx every 4-6 weeks.

 

my husband built the run but even though it was self built, yes, I think it did cost a bit but not as much as having one built by a company.

 

we have to have the roof because it would just be a quagmire without it.

 

what are you going to put in your run? you could ask for logs and rocks etc on freecycle maybe to add a bit of interest for the girls?

My run is about 42 ft by about 7ft so they have plenty of space so should not get bored and also have lots of rocks and a apple try to victimise lol. they love spending time at the bottom of the run near the apple tree and dust bathe near there.

 

still toying with a small roof of some kind on some of the run to give a bit of cover, though they all dash under the coop at the sign of rain lol.

How great being able to give them so much room. Guess you could make them a shelter then you could put food and veg under there when it's wet or windy.

My lawn is back, a bit patchy in places yet and re seeded a bit down the bottom but on the whole quite pleased with it so far.

That looks lovely - you have worked really hard. Maybe you could get a trampette so you could spring onto the trampoline without touching the grass

Thank god for Painkillers is all i can say, cos it was back breaking to dig and rake the lawn.

I wonder if i am a bit sad though cos i find great satisfaction in having a lovely green lawn (though slightly balding in places) that i have done myself.

 

It is actually better than before with less weeds and a better greener colour, my goldlines keep escaping most mornings though, but one or two girls dont do too much damage. But all 12 of them together made short work of the grass during the bad weather we had lol.

I see your poles are higher than your wire/fencing. maybe you could try stringing some twine/string between the uprights to deter them from jumping/flying over.

Yes thats my next job when i get round to it, you can get some chicken wire thats about a foot wide which i am going to use to stop the girls hurdling over the top lol
