meezers
Anybody else have chooks who are going to bed while it's still light ? Mine are tucked up by 7pm I'm sure the original chooks , when I got them 2yrs ago, stayed up as late as they could. Can't remember what the newbies did last year, but I'm sure they never went as early as this. They do get up early - 4.45am when they hear me getting ready for work,. What time are your chooks going to bed ?
ISCA
My 13 weekers are currently turning in for the night at 8.45 pm. They get up at 7am when the pop hole opens on timer.

Gelbel
It varies - mostly tucked up well before 9pm. My last check/ say goodnight is at 20:45 and 8 times out of 10 they are in their current favourite sleeping place of a perch in the integral run - and barely make anything more than a purr but happy to eye ball me. Last night they were still up and about - no doubt hoping to be allowed out to watch the Ashes to Ashes finale as they normally sit on the step and watch it via the iPlayer, just like me, on a Sunday afternoon. I told them that won't happen this week.
Goosey Lucy
Almost 10 o'clock here. Takes a good few handfuls of corn to get them in any earlier
sandyhas3chucks
Mine are all in by 8, some are earlier. My 1st 3/4 in 2008 were definately late to bedders. dusk before they went to bed!
Mollie333
I used to just let the girls go to bed whenever they want. But now its getting to summer months, its getting lighter earlier. In winter they were in bed by 7pm, now its nocking 8:30pm before they all go to bed, and its just starting to get dark at that time! Plus Foxy is around, so the girls NEED to go to bed early, as he keeps trying his luck to get the chooks. Its good that your girls dont mind going to bed early. Like a baby, you have to get them in to a ruitine. Which i totally have not done with my new girls! There nightmares.
sandyhas3chucks
having had 4 separate "flocks" 0f ex bats now, I think it is more to do with personalities and their natural instinct rather than getting them into routine like babies I know what you mean about the fox though and your worries. i like to look on it as the girls have taught ME how to get up and enjoy the mornings and enjoy the evenings too. All too soon it will be dark till nearly 8 am and dark again at 4 pm. Also I am now taking the view that as ex bats they are with me for such a short time, that this way we get to spend as much time together enjoying my garden that I can have you cpcidered a fox watch, it would appear to be "detering" my foxes (for now anyway)(3 years )
Purplemaniacs
My orignal girls go to bed about 8.30, the new ones wait until it is almost dark. They are seperate at the moment, originals in the cube, new girls in the eglu. Chrissie
chicken bark
My original girls go to bed about 9.45 at the moment. My new ones (only had them one night) went to bed at 8.30. I didn't let any of them up until 7.15 this morning and they would all have been happy with a bit more of a lie in.
coco
It was 10.00 oclock last night, I try to get them all back in the run by 8ish but I think they are getting wise to it now.
Guest
Mine go at different times the sussex go at around 8:30 - 9:00 depends if I am out with them or not. The Marsh Daisy's since they are young go around 9:15 - 9:30. 1. Becuase they are loving the different levels in the garden and love people watching and 2. because the sussex tend not to want them in there before they go to sleep. It depends on the animals personalities.
