Janepie33
Can anyone recommend a good set of bathroom scales? My old set packed up (they lied to me and told me I was 8lb lighter than I really am, which is fantastic, but not when you go smugly to Weight Watchers and find out the truth!). I bought a lovely new digital set in the John Lewis sale, but the problem is that they are lying too as I can weight 3 different weights within the space of 2 minutes, often over a 1 lb difference! I am going to take them back today and plan to pay a bit more for a reliable set. Any ideas or recommendations gratefully received.

Egluntyne
I thought my scales were lying, until I stepped on a friend's set. I suppose they could both be conspiring against me?
Happy chickens!
Are the scales on carpet or hard flooring? Much wider range of results on carpet!

Charlottechicken
I have really cheap 'value' type scales, I think they were from Woollies approx. 15 years ago and around £2. They are fairly accurate and seem to match whatever hospital/GP scales say.
Lesley
They all lie... I have to agree ....and I don't know about lbs differences......mine are always a couple of stones heavy!
lillybettybabs
I picked some digital ones up for Aldi last year that seem accurate enough.
chickencam
We bought some Salter digital ones and they are useless, you have to knock them gently to turn them on and then half the time they go off before you step on them. I have to use them in exactly the same place on the bathroom floor to get even a vaugely acurate reading. I preferrred my old ones they said I weighed a stone less than these do, but unfortunately these agree with the doctor's scales. . My biggest guide is what size clothes I fit into, but I hate it when you buy stuff from the charity shop and you find out that it is there because it is wrongly sized. I bought a lovely size 14 shirt the other week and it didn't even fit my size 10 daughter.
whoopsie
I would suggest not worrying so much to be honest, especially over a pound or two - you go up and down several times a day depending on meals/trips to the loo. Consistency over time would be a more accurate measurement of weight loss.
Seagazer
My OH bought some fancy all sparkling, all ringing digital scales and in the space of a week you could go up or down by quite a few pounds. It also tells you lots of other things like your bmi (is that the right name for it?) and other stuff. I keep telling him they can't be right, I can't put on 4 or 5 lbs and then loose 7 and then back up again but he won't have it. I know I'm overweight when my clothes don't fit properly (which they don't at the moment)
Olly
I never weigh myself, but I do own a pair of bathroom scales, and I have to take them down to the kitchen for a hard floor surface - no scales will weigh accurately on carpet. I gave up weighing myself a few years ago, and I am so glad - as said above, if your clothes fit you're ok, if they're getting tighter then you've probably put on weight. I have never found that knowing the actual amount helps at all with losing it!
Alis girls
Aah but when you get the suitcaseon you cant see the dial well you cant on ours so we weigh mum or dad alone and then with suitcase and do some maths. The cats dont stand still on the scales so a fat lot of good unless we do the same. But I agree - ours shout "hiya fatty" when I go into the bathroom
whoopsie
Olly has it about right I think! I think the average person's weight goes up and down about 5lb a day - can drive you crazy trying to keep up with it.
