Strictly 2010

Recommended Posts

I was chatting to one of my punters on Saturday night as we watched a little bit of Strictly in the shop. He said his wife used to manage a restaurant where Paul Daniels & Debbie Mcgee were regular customers and "Ooops, word censored!"ody in the restaurant had a good word to say about either of them, both were allegedly really unpleasant, demanding and rude!

I also was disappointed with Sunday's show. I really don't think the ultimate choice should be left up to us the viewing public  look what happens when they let us loose. What were people thinking? :?

I wonder if any of the really good dancers go out whether they would change it back for next year with the judges have the final choice.

Hmmm difficult one. When the dance off was brought in it did cause quite a lot of complaints and comments on the Strictly message boards. The problem was that the judges (rightly) are there to judge the dancing pure and simple so they are always obliged to eliminate the worst technical dancer on the night. This means that someone who is a little soul - less but quite good technically will be kept when someone else who maybe gets a few bits wrong but is beautiful to watch gets eliminated. Equally someone with tremendous potential will not be saved if they make mistakes.

I don't think either way is perfect but we had the situation last year (if I am remembering correctly) that the judges repeatedly saved Lalia when the public obviously didn't like her. Maybe a compromise would be to have a bottom 2 with the judges choosing who is to go but an automatic elimination if you are in the bottom 2 twice - of course this would then mean that if there were 2 in the bottom 2 who had been there before it would have to go back to the judges.......

I think it is a good mix of people this year - Peter Shilton and Paul Daniels make me squirm so I hope they go soon. Anne will be there for a little while yet so long as she still entertains (at last the judges have realised that it is also an entertainment programme, not just a dancing competition). Would be lovely if Pamela gets a long way as we have never had an older finalist.

I finally watched all of it.. Anton (bless him) looked like he was leading out a great aunt to dance at a wedding; perfect manners as always and helped her out no end. I noticed them talking and was trying to lip read but it looked like he was helping her remember the steps.

Paul Daniels (don't like the man) looked less like a rhythmically challenged granddad this time, but i wish they'd leave the gimmicks alone.

Shilton is trying, but ain't never going to get any better

I didn't like the Sunday show either, it was a waste of time and what had dear Claudia done to her eyes, she looked most odd.

I thought Peter should have gone, Godie had more potential, it will be weird for the first few weeks, hopefully we won't lose any of the good dancers. Entertainment show it is, but I do like to watch good dancing too.

couldn't agree more - although I watch the show to be entertained, I am entertained by watching skilled dancing not cumbersome-yet-endearing oafs!

OK, I admit, I loved watching Ann dance! I even voted for her - Sorry!! :shh:

I just thought her attitude was fantastic - she has come to enjoy herself! And give me Ann anyday over Paul Daniels...

I

That's almost exactly what we said to each other - though we said Grandma!

She did look like she was enjoying herself more this week, and Gavin Henson doesn't want to go home yet - bless him, that was a really genuine response.

Don't like the Sunday format at all, it doesn't have any real point. I as glad i'd missed it and saw it on Iplayer so I could fast forward most of it. I hope we don't end up with another 'Sargeant' though, that was embarrassing for everyone - him included.

I think the loss of the dance of is a disaster. It means there is too much room for hopeless voting by the public and the loss of good dancers because of silly voting.

My favourites so far: Matt to win (quite how I never noticed him on Countryfile is a mystery!), Pamela (a triumph for older, non-skinny women), Jimmy (just lovely)....and reluctantly that bloke from Eastenders, though I think he is too cocky by far. Ann is only hilarious because of Anton.

I think the new format places more responsibility on the public - so let's hope to goodness they/ we get it right!

It'll be interesting to see what the backlash will be if 2 really good dancers end up in the bottom 2

Was there any reason given as to why it had been s"Ooops, word censored!"ped :?: If there was I must've missed it

Ann's and Anton's partnership is sheer genius. He's really good with her and sometimes she appears quite girly with him. It really has shown a softer side to her and her banter with the judges is brilliant :lol::lol:
