I live in Essex and the hatchery where I buy my chickens sells Garvo so thats all mine have had. THe thing that confused me is that there are loads of different types but the bags are all the same so the only thing that is different is a number on the bag. My chickens hardly eat their food but loved the Garvo scrather food which apparantly should only be given once aweek. I think they like food with more bits in ? What no. Garvo feed are you all using?

After 3 months i've got used to amount of poo and go about picking it up as though it's the most natural thing in the world.......how sad does that sound

It's quite amusing to read about people (like i was) who get there girls for the first time and are staggered at the large amounts of poo a chicken can produce.

I order my Garvo Alfamix online from R.H.Miller in Scotland - the delivery charge is about £5.00 but my chickens are looking so fantastic on it that I think it is worth it - especially in this cold weather. The change in their poo is very noticeable - less of it and I cant remember the last time I saw a curry poo! I wish someone would stock it in Cheshire but until they do I will just have to support R.H.Miller - who are very efficient and helpful!

I have just switched to Garvo. Has anyone else noticed a change of color of the poo. My chooks have changed to a dark green color.

I have been using for a while now - (over a year I think) and yes the poo is slightly different shade however there are much fewer curry poos!!!

Mine (well, my girls' not mine, mine) are darker - nearly black.

 

A couple of months in using Garvo and they are now definitely eating less and pooing less. And I am getting 2-3 eggs a day without fail even in these really dark, short days,

What brand of Garvo feed are you using? I have just started using the Garvo super-mix and my chickens love it, but I can't help noticing that the little pellet bits always seem to be left behind so I am wondering if my chickens are now not really getting a balanced diet.

I use 731 layers pellets from october to march and 5030 scratcher pellets the rest of the time and 108040 alfamix chickens for treats as I find that they tend to pick the best bits (ie the treats) out and leave the stuff thats good for them

I have been using Garvo 730 and the poo's are definatly firmer. They appear to be thriving and I am still getting an egg of each most days. I also give them corn, raisins, sweetcorn, porridge oats mixed with hot water and garnished with dried meal worms to make a warm supper while it is so cold. Spoilt rotton.

Noticed earlier in the thread you said your local stockist wasnt open weekends. Over near Brackley there is one that is open on saturday mornings, Bagforce, just off the A43 Evenley Roundabout. Unfortunately they have run out of the Garvo cat food that my cats do VERY well on, and i have run out at home, so trying to find some elsewhere!!!

Yes, they are now open on Saturday mornings (didn't used to be) and I get one a month when I can get over there before they close.
