docsquid
My little bantams have laid their first eggs They arrived on 8th August around 12 weeks of age, and I wasn't really expecting them to lay yet. However I had noticed that Dilys, the Lavender Pekin, had grown wattles and her face was quite red, so thought she might lay in another few weeks... ...but this morning I checked the nest box as usual and there was nothing. However this afternoon, I checked again when I went to clean out the and found two perfect little eggs. So not only Dilys but either Deryn or Gwladys have laid their first egg! On the same day, Megan did a massive double-yolker, so the picture shows all four of todays eggs. Megan's on the left is 122g, Blodwyn's normal-sized egg is 78g and the banties' eggs are 21g and 22g respectively. Extra mealworms all round tonight! docsquid
I hope they start laying for you soon, Scarlett. I was very surprised by this - I thought maybe Dilys would lay in the next 3 to 4 weeks, the other two possibly not this year. Dilys has got a good comb and in the last week her wattles have become more pronounced too. Deryn has always had a red comb, and no real wattles to speak of (she is the silver-laced wyandotte), and I thought she wasn't quite ready as her face isn't that red. You can't tell with Gwladys, the frizzle silkie, because you can't see much of her face, but her ears have gone blue, so I suppose she is growing up too. I keep looking at the little eggs they are so beautiful and perfect!
