Dissolution by C.J. Sansom

I have been unable to read this as I have been catching up with the last Harry Potter before it comes out at the movies.

Its next on my list though as I love a good historical drama & I have it on my KIndle,so I will join in the discussion a little later this month :D

next book to read is 'Hunting Unicorns' by Bella Pollen

Very proud of myself - finished this book 4 days ago!

I really really did not want to read it, I don't like history, I didn't like the look of the cover or the sound of the characters or the plot.

BUT...... I loved it! :D I was completely hooked. CJ Sansom brought that historical period alive for me and I learned so much about things I sadly knew so little about. I loved the descriptions of the monks, the lifestyle and the landscape and the murder mystery kept me guessing until quite near the end.

Than you so much AJuff for recommending Dissolution. If it weren't for the Omlet Book Group I would have missed out on this gripping book. I have now passed it on to my sister to enjoy.

That is exactly how I felt when my OH suggested that I should read it a year or so ago. He had it recommeded to him by a friend, who said how historically acurate it was and how it brought that interesting period in history to life.

I really enjoyed it and have gone on the read the other books in the series and we will be buying the new one Heartstone in the next week or so. We are even tempted to get 2 copies and have our own reading group on it.:lol:

What an absolutely brilliant book :D:D I don't normally read history novels although I do like history and this one took me back many years to' O' level history when I was sixteen. The sights, sounds and smells of Tudor England were so well captured. Thank goodness we don't live like that now. I loved all the monastery stuff and I thought the individual monks' and the non religious characters were very well drawn.

The murder mystery kept me guessing right up to the end and I thought the unravelling of the plot was very well written.

My new Kindle arrived this week and the first thing I did was buy the next novel in the Shardlake series. It is proving to be just as good as' Dissolution' so I shall be buying more for certain

I am sooooo pleased you all like/liked it. I suggested it as OH had read it and told me it was well worth the read. For me historical novels has never been on my to read list but I thoroughly enjoyed this one. The characters are all very credible and the setting was amazing too. :D

Bit late catching up with this thread as we have been away looking at UEA with DS this weekend.

I have this book, but haven't made that much progress with it yet...I'm enjoying it,(well the couple of chapters I managed to read) but I've just had a really tough time with lots going on, which has meant I haven't been able to really settle down to reading it..

Hopefully going away for a few days well earned break very soon so that should give me a chance to complete it before the end of October. :)

I wasn't keen on reading this book as I don't normally go for historical novels either, and I must admit it did take me a long time to really get interested in the plot. However, I loved the descriptiveness of that period in history, and having visited a few abbeys that were destroyed at that time, it really brought alive what life must have been like then, and what the opposing attitudes to religion were at that time. Hubby is now reading it too as he goes for that sort of novel much more than me!

Well, I finished this book at lunchtime today and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I loved the way the author described everything - I could really visualise it, especially the characters. I also liked the fact that I know some of the places/areas that he described in the book. I really enjoyed the way he wrote the book, not to flowery descriptive if that makes sense but enough to be able to picture in my mind.

I really didn't guess the ending so that was brilliant for me as I do usually end up knowing 'who did it' which does spoil the enjoyment of the book for me.

Thanks so much for the recommendation. :D

I've finally managed to read a book group book! Yay!

I absolutely loved this book and am now onto the 3rd in the series... I also recently have bought a Kindle (thanks for the recommendation Cinnamon  ) and it has been brilliant - well worth the money IMHO.

I do love this period of history and the Tudor dynasty but really enjoyed the descriptions of the places and I really felt I was walking next to Shardlake and experiencing Tudor life. I think I have developed a bit of a crush on Shardlake too  is that weird? lol!

 a thumbs up from me for Dissolution :D
