The Good Life - again!

Recommended Posts

Welll........ not quite

One more little boy lamb this morning at 7am - in the rain - in the middle of the field

Mum and baby moved into the shelter and are both fine.

Next sheep looks ready to lamb as well - I'm just going for a pub lunch for my sister's Birthday, so I hope the sheep waits.

We still have two sheep left to lamb.

At the moment, we have 4 boys and 2 girls. We like it that way - 4 dinners and 2 to increase the flock!

Hugh (working here with Matthew on fencing) has delivered over 800 lambs on his farm in the last few weeks - we were struggling to castrate the boys and asked for his help. He couldn't do them either  Too small and too high was the verdict. I'm so glad :D - I was beginning to think it was just us being incredibly stupid

We may struggle to get them to a good weight as they are horned and will start fighting. They may have to visit the abattoir a bit earlier than we were hoping :? We'll wait and see.

Lamb No.7 arrived this afternoon - watched by Kate and family as well! :D

This is a photo taken at 1 hour old - I'll leave Kate to post some of her photos........... We've called this one Ollie (after Kate's son and also the name of the lamb's father) instead of 'Dinner' 8)

Tonight we will be collecting our nucleus of bees - Lauren and Jake have their beesuits ready.......... Lauren still has her arm in a sling....

I still haven't painted the beehive  - we have a few days when they can stay in the travelling box so I'd better get painting!

The weather actually feels like June today as well - it was cold and foggy this morning - but now a beautiful sunny afternoon.

Wow! That was a wonderful day! Thanks so much Lesley and Carl! We've never seen anything being born right in front of us before so that was soooo special. Ollie's chuffed to bits that the little lamb is also an Ollie  .

Sorry for the quality of the photos. I hadn't got my good camera with me - typical!!!

The lamb on the way...

We had such a lovely day! The lambs are too cute for words and I could have taken all of the pigs home given half a chance!! Good luck with the bees tonight! Hope all goes well!

What lovely pictures.

You picked the perfect day to be a midwife Kate!

Off topic but......

Poor Lauren....still in plaster! How does she manage at school? How much longer does she have to wear it?

My sons both broke the arms they didn't write with...No 1 broke his right and is left handed and no 2 the other way round! So no excuses and a hard hearted mother!

Hello Lesley,

I've really enjoyed catching up with this thread, the pictures are super :D:D:D

Can I please ask where did you get your Beehive etc from please. It's something we have often talked about but never "got round" to having if you know what I mean.

I haven't been around either :D We went to Center Parcs for the day as all my family were staying there - Claret very kindly popped over to check on all the animals 8)

We're clean now

Caroline - we went on a six week Bee Keeping course held at the BBKA which is at Stoneleigh, not too far from us. There was so much information there, really helpful. We bought the hive and a nucleus of bees from one of the Warwick and Leamington BKA members - he also sells hives and many other bits and pieces. He's fairly local so if we had a problem, we would be able to go back to him. The bees have a money back guarantee.

I have painted the hive - photos later

Egluntine - Lauren dislocated her shoulder twice (and her thumb 3 times) and went into hospital for manipulation and observation under a GA. She's supposed to keep it immobile - but they only gave her a sling  Try telling a 9 year old to keep immobile - esp. as it doesn't hurt too much now  She was banned from the Grand Rapids at Center Parcs yesterday - but she wasn't supposed to be swimming at all :? She's had to give up playing the cello, and swimming :(

Poor thing...it has been a long haul for her!!

Lets hope it will be sorted soon.

I had a good cuddle of the little lambie twice at the weekend, and had great fun checking ont he animals yesterday.

Will post when I can download the photos.
