Cinnamon
I am irritated beyond belief by badges which declare "Baby on board" So what! 1. It suggests that the drivers baby is more special and precious than anyone else's child. It most emphatically is not....they are all wonderful and irreplaceable to their families. 2. It suggests that a more careful driving style should be adopted in the vicinity of this particular child.....when in fact we should drive with due care and consideration AT ALL TIMES, not just when we are honoured to be in the presence of this infant prodigy. Grrrrrrr. Do you know how these started out? I used to work on the Info desk at a Childrens World, & we had one of the first batches of these things in store & a little sales meeting about them. Their purpose is to let emergency services know that there is a child in the car, should the car be involved in an accident & need cutting in to. So, if the parents are driving without the child on board, the child on board sign SHOULD be removed, as it can cost the Firemen precious time & energy seeing if there is indeed a child in the wrecked car. They are not totally abused, these signs, & it makes me MAD when I see one in a car with no child in sight, & usually in a Mother & Child parking space too
Louise
At least that is a good use for a label but that is not how they are used maybe the police should try and enforce this I have seen people parking in the mother and child places and the doors open and a couple of strapping teenagers climb out
Egluntyne
That is interesting Cinnamon...I've not heard it before. Even so, without wishing to be difficult I would hope that our magnificent emergency services would prioritise in order of need not in order of age. These signs are misused too often for them to be relied upon in a crisis.
Guest
I have often said that parent and child parking spaces should be at the other end of supermarket car parks, to ensure they are used by people who actually need them, ie people who need the extra space at the sides of their cars to open the doors and strap children in safely, without banging off the car parked next to them. My children are always dressed appropriately for the weather, so a bit of a walk from the car to the shop doesn't bother me one little bit. I also can't see why disabled spaces aren't patrolled by an 'enforcer', giving out fines to those who park in them needlessly, then it would also give people who are temporarily 'infirm' the chance to park in these spaces - you can prove to the guy you have a broken leg, you then have as much right to park there as a blue badge holder until healed. feemcg
... or how about the latest 'baby on board' stickers with a photo of the precious wee thing and "Jodi" On Board in pink glittery writing .
Jaime
Have you seen the ones with "Little Princess on Board"? I'd like that one just for me As for "Baby On Board" I thought it was to warn other drivers that the person driving the car is too distracted to concentrate as she/he sings The wheels on the bus, while bottle feeding with one hand and using the mobile phone with the other. I always think it means BEWARE CR*P DRIVER

I guess its so if a car is rammed from behind they would know for definite that there was baby in the crumpled up bit at the back. (trying not think too much about hwat I just wrote) nothing to do with age more that the smaller you are the easier you are to lose under bent metal. I think they're misused because noone knows what they are for. I didnt! Do I really want to continue my driving lessons? chookie I'm with you on this one. My children have legs, or my legs are used for them and are quite capable of getting to the shop. Might wear them out a bit before I get in which can only help. Snowy
I can appreciate there might be a use for the standard 'baby on board' signs (never had one myself though) but I really don't like those fancy ones, as said above the 'little princess' or whatever else they say. Makes my toes curl! Can I put in a request for a couple of extra wide spaces for 'the very pregnant'? The number of times I had to park in a standard space before number 1 came along, then found I was too enormous to squeeze out the car. Now that WOULD be a useful parking space to have! chelsea
I'm choosing my words very carefully here....but I'm still reeling from the news that Madeleine McCann, the little girl abducted in Portugal, was left unattended whilst her parents were at a nearby Tapas Bar. Whilst I'm sure they bitterly regret their actions now.....what on earth made them think it was acceptable to leave three children under the age of 4 unattended at night in a foreign country. Popping back every half hour is not good enough, as has been clearly demonstrated. They are both doctors for god's sake so one would have expected them to have made a more intelligent decision than this. Whilst I am deeply sorry for them and sincerely hope that their little girl is returned to them....I can't help feeling that perhaps they should face prosecution for abandoning their children. You might say that they have been punished enough, but I heard on the radio that under Portugese Law it is likely that they will be charged.. Completely agree. It was the 1st thing that popped into my head - " why on earth would you go off to eat leaving 3 young vunerable children alone in the room" I pray she is found safe and well. Looney
Just caught up with this thread...sooo much I could rant on about but will try and resist the urge.......ooooh.....nope.....can't stop myself ...... ....Firstly, I agree with others that have said how ridiculous it is that people try and park as close to the supermarket door as possible - WHAT FOR? AND WHY DO THEY HAVE TO HOLD EVERYONE UP WHEN TRYING TO GET THE GOLDEN SPOT THAT INVOLVES WADDLING FIFTEEN STEPS LESS THAN THE ONE IN THE NEXT ROW Secondly, are people really so ignorant and lazy that leaving a trolley in the middle of a space actually seems reasonable rather than waddling another fifteen steps to take it to a trolley park? They would be the first to complain if there isn't a trolley by the door for them to use I'm surprised these people can actually manage to make it around the supermarket and load their bags into the car without requiring medical attention and a lie down due to sheer exhaustion Add point one and two together and that lazy, irritating waddling fool could actually have doubled their daily exercise! Family car parking spaces actually seem more dangerous than the others as these as always the busiest so cars pulling in and out all the time OOps, and I was trying not to rant

Couperwife
not wanting to miss out on a rant!!!! why - why - why does the volume on the TV automatically go up when there is an advert on. If I want to use a certain kitchen cleaner, I will use it, I will not be conned by Barry Scott shouting at me from the TV when im sitting down trying to relax (and staying away from brats and supermarket trolleys)

Couperwife
what about: people who take their dogs for a walk down the high street and let them "do their business" as my nan would say without cleaning up People who are not working for whatever reason - retired, on holiday, etc, who still insist on doing their shopping with a FULL trolly load and going to a cafe and sitting down with a million bags on the only spare seat, at that only 45 minute break that I have when I can go and get some dinner. grrrrrr
