Need a glass of wine!

Recommended Posts

DD went back to Uni on Sunday. I gave her some money to get her hair cut today and she said she'd put a photo on Facebook when she had had it done. Just been chatting to her on Skype but the picture was not very clear or I would have noticed earlier that as well as having her hair cut she has also HAD HER TONGUE PIERCED :anxious::roll:

A slight change in her voice gave it away. Just waiting for the tattoo to arrive

Think a large glass of Pino is required before I phone her father to let him know.

Oh my!

My youngest is piercing mad....we will have trouble when she turns 16 next month

At the moment,I am 'in charge',but I suspect as soon as she can.she will fill herslef with holes.

Just last week I caught her with a stretcher in her ear, trying to make her lobe piercing into those ugly big gaping hole things

A girl at work got her tongue done last week & it has gone septic...truly not a pretty sight

She said it wasn't, that it was just like having an injection. She assured my that she had it done at very reputable establishment and showed me a huge bottle of antiseptic mouth wash she had been given to keep it clean.

Apparently it will be quite swollen tomorrow and she has to give a presentation at uni! Good luck to her. :?

Oh Yes been there, granted 12 yrs ago but still wanted to kill DYD.

Hair went from almost waist to shoulders, tatoo on midrif...outline only,

she admitted it hurt so much she couldn't bear it to be coloured in.

Belly button and tongue ( and lip, but it hurt so much she removed it..tongue stud much later went into the bin.)

Dare i say somewhere else ,glad to say it never went back after first baby.

Even the belly button ring is not worn any more.

I kept wondering what it was i was paying for just so she could get a higher education.

No matter what we discussed and safe advice ...i may have recited nursery rhymes to her.Still she turned out ok, just.

ive got my lobes done 3 times, and 2 at the top of my left ear (cos I could :D ) the nose might come soon (if I can find a way of getting away with it at school (being a teacher...not so easy  )

Cleo has her nose done and I quite like it. She wears a clear retainer for school, and you really cannot see it st all.

She also has 3 line piercings in each ear,a helix and a reverse tummy button piercing.

I have 2 in each lobe and a tragus,which I love.

The only other I am tempted by is a Diath, but I probably won't bother.

We are lucky enough to have the Excellent Urban Piercings near to us,run by lovely Adam, who is as gentle and skilled as he is hot!

I was recently chatting to th nice girl in Pets at home who had an above lip piercing - it kept moving as she talked and I couldnt take my eyes of it  I had my ears done again last year and it hurt like hell. Never again - ES shows no signs of wanting peircing yet or tattoos - but time will tell - he just wants to club it - 15 so i still have a bit of control -thing is he looks 17 or 18 so i worry. All I will say is if they insist on these piercings make sure the people are responsible for their health and their own - Hep B jabs and certs of proficiency etc.

Only one glass? Both my two have piercings and tattoos. Luckily number one son only has the one lip piercing since one of his snake bites closed up. Tattoos on his forearms cover a lot of self harming that he was ashamed of and now has so much more confidence. He has a little bird on his neck too. DD couldn't wait and shoved a pin into her eyebrow when she was 14 and I only found out when infection set in and I scratched my hand on it when I checked her temperature. A trip to A&E and she was lucky it hadn't spread - she could have lost her sight! (One bottle of wine required at that point - or perhaps something much stronger!) So then she waited till she was 16 and had a lip piercing. Then she wasn't allowed to have it while she was at college, so she now has scaffolding in her ear. Bleh, but pointless as her hair covers it. At 18 two nice little tattoos appeared - one a bird with an olive branch on her wrist (her design) and as I suppose an interest in anything nautical meant an anchor under her armpit (also her own design). I don't even have my ears pierced! BOK BOK BOK!

ES has only had one ear pierced but on his 18th and 19th birthdays he got himself tattoos as his present. He's always looking at new pictures to have done. He's got a memorial to his friend on the top of his arm and a celtic ring on his back. I try to persuade him to have them done where he can cover them up for work.

I've got my ears pierced and back in the day had another one put in one ear but I don't ever have earrings in it now. I've often fancied having one higher up on my ear.

poor you the thought of the tongue one makes me gag lol son 21wanted eyebrow at 15 but we said no not until he left school and thankfully the interest went by then.

ED24 thought about belly piercing again said 18 and she lost interest, had a tatoo at 22 on her back and now has a lily on her side same as her sister.

YD also wanted a belly piercing so we said when she was 18 thinking she'd loose interest, i think it was 2 days after her bday she had it done :lol: she also has a tattoo down her side.

i always drummed into them until they have decided what job they want please don't get any tattoos that you can't cover or a piercing on the face.

Well I have tattoos, but only standard ear-piercings, although I still want a tragus piercing after seeing yours, Cinnamon!

My niece has top and bottom lip, tongue, nose, eyebrow, 'flesh tunnels' in both ears ( :vom: ) as well as multiple other piercings, and a pierced nipple (allegedly - I haven't seen this one), BUT she has recently had to remove the bottom lip piercing, as it was hurting her gum. Tongue and lip studs can cause your gums to erode and do permanent damage to the teeth apparently - not something you worry about when you're 18 or 19, I know, but a point to bear in mind.

They can 'ping' back if the holes are not too stretched, but if they are very big (3mm or more) its permanent.

Hence my anger & total disbelief that my daughter had stretchers in her lobes. Luckily I caught her early (actually her big sister squealed on her  )

I then raided her room & found 2 more stretchers in increasing sizes.

Stretchers are a sort of long barb shaped earring that you pop into a normal piercing hole & quite literally push it along the increasing width until you can go no further, then you carry on pushing it until you are at the thickest bit of that barb, then you go on to the next size up.

If they take the flesh tunnel or stretcher out they have a nasty flappy ear lobe. I hate them.

Teens don't seem to think far enough ahead to worry about if affecting their career prospects

Olly, get that Tragus done.It really did not hurt a bit!

I have two sets of holes in my lobes, although only ever wear one set of earrings. I push the second hole open every now and again 'just in case' I ever want to wear two sets again, but I never do! I also have a belly piercing which I got at 18, ten years ago now. And I also had my cartilage pierced in my left ear, but it never ever healed properly and after a year or so I took it out (and of course it healed up within days! )

I've thought about a tattoo from time to time, but I wouldn't really know what to get. I also know that it wouldn't take long before I decided I didn't like it after all  Plus I am a total wuss.

i might be a nurse but this thread has turned my stomach - piercings are a minefield the risks of infection and septaemia are there if not hygienically done. Now wheres my bucket :vom:

Ali, I have bought him antiseptic wipes today so don't worry

The best stuff to use to heal and to keep sterile is called Metal Morphosis. It keeps the area moist, and we all swear by it.

You can get it for a very good price from the Urban Piercings site.

This thread makes me feel :vom: I cant help but read it - I think I am getting more squeamish as I age  I had a particularly horrd dressing yesterday which is awful for the pt but I felt quite shocked after doing it. Funny thing is heavily pregnant GP I work with came in to see a cyst which was very pussy and took 2 steps back :vom: I suspect hormones make you react differently - I am not pregnant but probably its my age
