Henslaved
Hi all , I have been reading some posts on here about sanitising the ground in the run, some say Stalosan F and some say garden lime. I was just wondering how you go about it, and how long before the hens (and guinea fowl) are allowed back in to start pecking and scratching around on it? Ain't Nobody Here
You can use both - Stalosan is a disinfectant, the lime neutralises the acidity caused by all that poo . Both are safe to put down when the chickens are there. (Stalosan is quite a fine powder though so keeping them out and your nose & mouth covered while you sprinkle it around is a good idea!) cooker
Thankyou for asking that question! I had always thought if you sanitised the ground you had to move the chickens somewhere else for a week or so, I have the same issue, my run is fixed. I shall look into getting it sanitised! Thankyou! Rachel
Ain't Nobody Here
Do make sure it's garden lime and not builders' . If you can't get Stalosan, Biodry is another brand Omleteers recommend!
The Dogmother
I use BioDri on the run floor, it's less inclined to blow around than Stalosan.. You can also use a disinfectant like Viratec if you want to disinfect the feeders and drinkers; it's much like Milton and comes in a powder form that you make up in a bucket of water. Henslaved
It's not too far from where I live. I drive down that road quite a lot and I have only just discovered the place last year . You can't see it from the road as it's round the back of Woodside House and the signage at the entrance is too small to notice if your not looking for it . The Blue Barn in Otley is where I go too , but that's because I like the shops in Otley . Glad to be of help .
