Griffin
I've never ever ever had an egg explode but tonight on only day 4 I spotted an egg which was oozing. It looked like it had split almost from top to bottom. Weird thing was it doesn't smell at all. I didn't think they popped that early either. So I've had to hoik all the eggs out, dismantle the incy to disinfect it before putting them back in again. Fingers crossed it doesn't harm them They were safely back where they belong within ten minutes and a broody would leave them for longer so it should be ok but it's not ideal It was a bantam Barnevelder that went bang. The shell quality on all the Barnies was poor and most looked to have been scrambled in the post anyway. I candled everything while they were out anyway and all the Barnies were duds. Joy Amazingly the Silkies that spent the weekend in the post and then sat here for 5 days before even going in the incy are 5/

Lewis
Day 4 is early! Are you going to let the breeder know + about shell quality too? Good luck with the others!

Griffin
Yes and no reply from the seller either I've added them to my list of sellers to avoid

craftyhunnypie
I once had some Ancona eggs from ebay. They were supposed to be bantams. Hmmm. When they arrived they were large eggs. I did incubate them - but none were fertile & one of those wept after about 5 days. I wasn't a happy bunny. I have also had brilliant eggs off ebay that were all fertile. I have friends who have used this same seller too with success. I have that particular seller saved for this year. But I also like to get eggs from Wernlas too when I visit there. That way, I'm in charge of how they are handled from Wernlas to my incys. Good luck for this coming week? Emma.x
Griffin
There are some excellent sellers but I have found there does seem to be more bad than good. I have to say one of the things that irks me the most is sellers insistance that feedback is only left on the service received not the actual fertility or success of the eggs. And not enough people update the feedback left with the hatch rate. I've had 100% fertility amongst some posted eggs so it is possible to receive superb eggs that haven't suffered. However if the shell quality is poor and the eggs are infertile that's more to do with the seller than the buyers incubating prowess. It doesn't matter if they arrived within 12 hours of the auction ending upon the back of a white horse, hand delivered by a knight in shining armour with the eggs expertly packed. If the cock bird isn't doing his job nothing will hatch and that's not the buyers fault.
Charlottechicken
I agree Griffin. I always update my feedback when the eggs have hatched, but I don't buy that many! I see it as useful info for anyone else wanting to buy. Thankfully I don't hanker after expensive breeds as I imagine this is where more charlatans are trying to sell eggs. I will be going back to the same Welsh seller (dragonpoultry) I bought eggs from 2 years ago, when I buy some this year. She sells pot luck eggs and they are good enough as garden hens, just not for breeding. Hope the others hatch OK
CallyChook
I will be going back to the same Welsh seller (dragonpoultry) I bought eggs from 2 years ago, when I buy some this year. She sells pot luck eggs and they are good enough as garden hens, just not for breeding. I bought poland eggs from her last year. mixed pot luck polands! i think i had the humidity too high, one died day 6ish but I had 3 DIS so upsetting. the two i did hatch - Pringle has terrible lacing but the most perfect globe crest i have ever seen, and Xanthe (male) has good feathers except a white blob in his crest. He's extremely vigorous in his growth, very muscular. Friendly to the point of pestering and superbly randy! i will buy from her again too.
