alih
Am sorely tempted but am wondering whether those who have them have found them to live up to the hype? I gather the updated version is out soon too - does anyone know when, exactly? Thank you in advance!
jlo
Don't know when the new one is coming out so can't help there. OH bought one last year. The idea was for him to play online poker on it but it doesn't support whatever is needed to play that and apparently Apple aren't hot on gambling (to be honest - I am with them there...I detest online poker!) Consequently, DD has taken possession of said ipad, even though it is really for the family. It is pretty impressive but it is still an awful lot of money IMHO. I find the onscreen keyboard really hard to get on with but DD is fine with it. If I had the opportunity to get used to it (fat chance!) I think that I would enjoy it more. alih
Thanks jlo - I want one to use in court and they seem the perfect size -lots of colleagues have them and find the keyboard fine...you are right about the money though
Geoid
Not an ipad, I have a samsung galaxy tab, cheaper, smaller, but can play flash, and you can text, phone etc on it too.
mollyripkim
I am using one now, much better than my laptop. Great for omleteering when OH is watching tele. He often asks if I am having a chicken fix. Also great for photos, got over 3000 and so easy to sort and load. I like the bigger screen and keyboard (than my phone) for email when I am away from home. Grandkids love the games. Admit it was expensive but I personally think it's worth it. chuckmum6
They are great, I love mine, you can do all sorts of things on them, very neat and portable. Apple bring new products out every 6 months so the models change quickly, the next ipad won't be massively different, but may have a usb. I went for the wireless rather than a 3g, not something I need. It was a Christmas pressie from my OH as I'd had a tough year.
The Dogmother
Not an ipad, I have a samsung galaxy tab, cheaper, smaller, but can play flash, and you can text, phone etc on it too. One of the chaps at work had one from abroad before they came out in the UK - I was very impressed with it, more so that the ipad.
Omletina Kyckling
Spacechick has one, she was on the forum when we are the Northern Poultry show. I wasn't at all
Eggasperated
I'm using mine now, I bought it last July and since then I've hardly used my PC. I don't have a laptop so I don't know how it compares to those but I do absolutely love my iPad. I thought the lack of Flash might be an issue but it doesn't really hamper what I do. Also being on BT broadband I can use their wireless anywhere they have Openzone, however I haven't really used the 3G as I don't travel an awful lot and I haven't found I needed it. chuckmum6
If no flash is a problem then you can jailbreak your ipad.
Geoid
If no flash is a problem then you can jailbreak your ipad. Thats a bit dodgy, I wouldn't recommend doing it, unless you know what you are doing.

Thats a bit dodgy, I wouldn't recommend doing it, unless you know what you are doing. Simple to do and lots of site with step by step guides, there are also ways without jailbreaking, if you can get cloud brouser app.
Space Chick
Spacechick has one, she was on the forum when we are the Northern Poultry show. I wasn't at all Tis true Mine fits in my handbag and comes everywhere with me I'd get the 3G one if you are going to, as this gives you Internet everywhere, including poultry shows I couldn't be without mine now

Geoid
Its legal if you don't put any apps/games etc on it that are not legal (pirated ones) but apple doesn't like it, so it would void the warranty and if it went wrong, you wouldn't have any comeback. PandoraTiffany
I love my Ipad. If you do invest in one, then get the 3G model because you can work anywhere. The only criticism I have is of the case. The cheapest one the apple store is £30 and it's easy to mark and mine looks a bit tatty after not quite 6 months. Cinnamon
I quite fancied one but decided it couldn't do any more than my Smartphone does for me now, really.

alih
Thanks all. I am persuaded! Now all I have to do is wait for the new version to come out - not that I want a super duper one but the price of the old one will surely come down then??? Patience never was my best quality (drums fingers on desk....)
Space Chick
(drums fingers on desk....) When you get your iPad, you won't need to drum your fingers on the desk I have a really cool drum kit on my iPad

Lewis
I do love Debs' ipad when I get to have a play on it ...but a few times the no flash can be a bit annoying, like when trying to upload pics from the shows onto here ! There was an app eventually but just seemed a bit fiddly to do I think I'd rather stick with my netbook 'cos of the price + spose I could get a dongle (or get tinternet to the netbook from my phone) but ipads are really
Willow
You can play angry birds on an ipad (you can play it on an iphone as well but it is so much better on the ipad). I normally can't see the point of computer games but this is addictive
