Who will supply and build a WIR- more questions!

Recommended Posts

I am planning a wir but I want to pay someone to make and build it. I have had a quote from avaries4u and hadn't realised how pricy it was going to be £850 + for a 5m x 2.5m x 1.8m. Does anyone know any other places I could try, as I really don't want to pay £850, more around 500ish. I am beginning to think that the chickens will be living in their cube train forever, as although I love them, I can't justify the high price. Please let me know any good places you know of :D Thank you

They were very helpful, changed things to suit me i.e. mesh on the inside, inward opening door and they delivered it to Huddersfield and built it for me for £50 so can't fault them. I've had it about 4-5 months now and am really pleased with it.

Here is mine

I've just had a run built by Chirpy Coops and am very pleased indeed with it, the service was very good and no fuss at all with a couple of special requirements.

They came back yesterday and put an extension on it for me, again no fuss and no problems and the extension looks like part of the original run

The run is 18 x 6 and split in to four sections each with its own door, the roof is Onduline and the whole thing looks great

:D

Haven't seen what you mean but a security door is normally a 2nd inner door (for parrots, owls, monkeys etc) so you can open the first door, shut it behind you, then open the next door ... just so they don't escape.

If that is what they mean, I think you can save your money ;)

If that what a security door is, then it sounds good  Mine always queue up at the door, so as soon as I go in to collect eggs they squeeze around my legs and escape  Doesn't help that the door opens outwards either... It could be one of those things that once you get the WIR built, you wish you spent that little bit extra to make it perfect.

I am trying different companies to give me quotes, must say they all are fairly similar, a lot of money!

My next question to you all is; I have an 11ft square concrete perimeter, on which an old greenhouse used to stand. It currently has a deep layer of gravel and large trampoline on it, which has Omlet wire around the outside and makes up part of my girls stomping ground. I am now thinking of a 10th square wir for them, fitted inside the concrete square, ideal protection against the fox, but is pea gravel a good base for them, topped off with wood chip or something else?

My girls currently have a long cube train 6m run which they are hardly ever shut in, I have 9 chickens (8 bandies). They have free range of a large chunk of my garden at least 40ft x15ft, this is behind a wooden fence and included by Omlet netting. The problem is OH is moaning about the state of the garden because of my chokes, I am secretly planning more, but wondering if they were more contained that he wouldn't mind as much. I would still let them out when I was at home.

So after all that waffle, do you think gravel is ok? Would a 10ft squared wir be big enough for some more home grown Wyandotte banties? Or should I stick to the 15ft x 6ft run, which would need a base perimeter slabbing at more cost? All requires a lot of thought!:doh:

Just saw this thread - and see lots of references to Chirpy Coops. :anxious:

Before using them, please look at the separate thread entitled something like WARNING - CHIRPY COOPS. There have been several people (myself included) who have had serious problems with them. I was lucky enough to get a refund from Paypal when they failed to deliver my ordered WIR.

Please do not part with any money to Chirpy Coops unless you're really confident they will deliver!
