Buff orpington bantam

And a buff miniature for which I can not find the photo - and also Plymouth

Anyway - these are the parent bantams - my husband told me that I can have 2 more bantams.

I don't do 'told' so I am getting 4. They are hatched and will grow up togethe whichever ones I choose so they will have sorted out their own pecking order - and when big enough will be joining my Pekin Bantams

Which 4 would you choose. I definitely want the Buff Orpington bantam.

Do they do as much choice in full sized hens?

If so where do I get one from?

I've sort of limited myself to one more when the Cube arrives. My ideal a blue egg layer - I like the Cotswold Legbar :D

(But also a pencilled wyandotte) :?

The chamois poland has a hairdo like my Dolly, it's brilliant, but rankly, they have trouble seeing and are always bumping into things  I have to trim Dolly's hair, which rather spoils the splendid effect. Having an 80s wedge doesn't look right, and I'm not convinced that her eyesight is that good anyway.

Good for you.

Me neither!

Someone said the other day on the forum "I am only allowed.......":shock: My jaw hit the floor and my eyes were out like chapel hat pegs..........I digress.........I am not so keen on the one wearing the posh hat....but the Buff Orpington Bantam is rather lovely!

Sorry to hear about Freckle.

I definitely agree with the buff pencil tailed pekin - gorgeous!

Plus the porcelain lavender silver barbu thingy - but I'd never remember all that!

And the chamoise with the hairdo - my araucana is just like that, a bit scatty and definitely can't see where she's going, but a real character.

Whichever you get they'll be gorgeous. 8)

Edited: just read about Freckles, so sorry Dilly. :(

Thanks for you message about Freckles - she passed quietly and painlessly in her sleep but still sad.

Buff Orpingtons I have always liked and decided last year that this year I would get one - but a bantam variety. They are so docile, friendly, fluffy, and quiet, don't lay many eggs - suits us fine as we give ours away - and apparently don't dig big holes in the garden  I will believe that when I see it.

I need to get more bantams and to have just two little pekin bantams in a great big cube - well enough said!

4 of each!

He's such a bad influence isn't he!!

Sorry to hear about Freckles - it's very sad. :( We lost our little silver-pencilled wyandotte bantam last week too. She slipped away peacefully in her sleep after becoming ill the week before. My daughter is keen to have two new bantams so we will be interested in the choice you make. Photos essential! :D

I agree about the photos

So far I am decided upon the Buff Orpington, and Buff Pencil tail pekin bantam - (so many buffs so need a bit of colour methinks  )

"Ooops, word censored!"ody chose the black ones which was interesting.

Still not decided on the other two yet.

Same here with my Poland bantam,Floss.

She looks terribly tatty most of the time, but is gorgeous if she is having a good hair day (but we know how rare those are, don't we Ladies  )

A Silkie will be useful if you want a broody in the future,& the Buff Orpington is a must have :P

I won't mind 'broody' as I know Silkies are prone to it. I will have a spare Eglu for any that are.

With one nest at the moment in the Eglu, I find the broody hen whichever one it is, is really grumpy and growls at the others and will not give up her nest - so I have to lift 'her' off and put her outside to give any others room to lay.

Once I know the eggs are laid, I will often shut the eglu door as my chickens have big pen and the door is open for them to freerange - so they have lots of hiding places in the garden if they want to be broody and grumpy, without taking it out on the others.:lol:
