PurpleTree
We had our cutlery set for a wedding present almost 9 years ago, there's 8 of each & luckily we've only lost one teaspoon, which I suspect went out with a yoghurt pot. I've been keeping a look out to replace it but I can't find the same design anywhere I bought hubby some cheap soup spoons to take to work with him after I caught him taking our best ones, looks like I'm going to have to buy some forks too as he's started taking Pot Noodles now & taking one of the best forks My mum keeps throwing teaspoons on the plants when she tips out the dish water
Geoid
Socks, teaspoons and knives here. DH quite often uses a knife as a screwdriver substitute A knife is no substitute for a screwdriver. I have something like this which can be kept in a kitchen drawer or similar.
LolaLayla
Teaspoons vanish here. A number of years ago I was so fed up of so many odd spoons that I bought 8. My son asked me why I had bought 8 teaspoons so I told him it was to use when my friends came round for coffee. He then asked me if I had 8 friends

The Dogmother
We have disappearing socks... every couple of months I buy about 10 pairs of identical black socks for Rosie and I. Every time I wash them I take out the number of pairs that I have worn that week and Rosie still complains that she doesn't have any socks. I have advised that cleaning up her room will unearth them all. *tuts*
..lay a little egg for me
Disappearing cutlery has even been the subject of a scientific research paper: link. Subsequent letters in response to this scientific article in The British Medical Journal revealed that it is a global phenomenon and that forks are also a problem
beach chick
after our engagement party, I accidentally (drunkenly?) threw all our cutlery into a bin bag with all the food debris etc. on arriving at work the next morning, I remembered, and had to spend a hungover evening trying to find the cutlery again... nowadays I automatically blame the children. or the dog. or mr beach chick. chickencam
First place to look for lost items is definately children's bedrooms, I have to have amnesty days for glasses, spoons, mugs, plates, rechargable batteries and odd socks. I have a bundle of lonely socks in my airing cupboard. This is not to mention lost scissors, sellotape, hole punches, re-useable bags ans the list goes on. Cd's, we can go months without seeing a newly purchased CD
Alis girls
Have you checked the garden - reading another thread "bizarre things found in garden" you may find your stuff outdoors esp as I know from your postings you have kids. Suspect if anything like me you might find a whole canteen of cutelry out there

The Dogmother
Exactly! I had a root through R's room this morning after she'd gone to school; I had asked her to bring out her dirty washing as I was sorting it into piles. I managed to unearth 10 worn socks - didn't check whether they matched, 8 pairs of pants and 2 school shirts all of which needed to be washed. sage
We have a monster that lives behind the washing machine, it eats a sock at least twice a week, if it cannot get socks it eats teaspoons & folks and it has been known to munch on a few pens If you stand outside the kitchen door in the middle of the night you can hear it moving about. Old Speckled Hen
Body Butter Don't get me started. I have masses of the stuff in all colours and flavours. The body shop stuff is OK for sunny holidays but the rest..... I wish the kids would consider that a well thought out Christmas card alone is better than any amount of cheap multicoloured multiflavoured cheap body butter !!!!!!!..............and breathe Give me my Clarins, anyday. chickencam
I couln't agree more, my MIL is always giving me toiletry sets that she picks up at the charity shop, some were quite good quality in their day but have been in and out of various charity shops and peoples cupboards so often that they have passed their best, I am afraid that they all go to my local charity shop. On the subject of socks I found about 15 worn socks several pairs of pants and quite a lot of other stuff that was due for a wash on a frisk of DS's room this morning. I had asked him loads of times to remove them, it is a good drying day so in I went.
The Dogmother
I wish I was at home today; I'm half tempted to take a shovel and bin bag to Rosie's room 'nothing to wear' my bum! I'm another one not keen on the fruity scented stuff.
EmmaJC
Having studied this for years I have finally realised what happens to teaspoons: 1. Other half decides to make a cup of tea. 2. Other half goes into kitchen, puts water in kettle and switches on. 3. Collects teaspoon from drawer. 4. Opens cupboard to collect cups. Finds a teaspoon in hand so puts it in his pocket. 5. Collects teaspoon from drawer. 6. Goes to fridge to get milk. Finds a teaspoon in hand so puts it in his pocket. 7. Makes tea. When adding sugar discovers he has no spoon. Collects one from drawer and puts in pocket while he puts the milk back in the fridge. 8. Goes to add sugar, finds he is again lacking a spoon. There are none in the drawer, so he uses a fork. 9. Eventually goes to work. While at work discovers host of teaspoons in his pocket which he puts in his desk drawer. His office must be the only in the country who make tea using Arthur Price teaspoons.

abwsco
I have just pegged out 17 single socks ROFCWL. I've recently discovered why my DH had got odd socks. When he puts them away (I refuse to as I've washed them and he's old enough to do that himself) if he has any odd ones he keeps them for a week or so and then throws the odd ones out Didn't think that the odd ones would turn up in DD's room or just reappear like they do!
