new mobile phone contract help please

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I'm going to get myself a new phone  . I'm looking to get one of the all new singing all dancing thingamebobs.

I'm very confused about contracts etc though. I was wondering if any of you kind souls could help me.

I want to get unlimited texts and also want to use internet on it and phone calls (but not so many phone calls as I'm really a texter).

i've looked online and been in to speak to somebody in carphone warehouse. But it all seems so complicated and confusing. I don't want to be paying loads. But I dont want to get conned into getting a cheap contract and then going over my free limit and paying extra. :talk2hand:

Some people seem to say they can get it for £25 - £30. But when I asked the bloke in the shop he was quoting £45!

Does anybody know of a good cheap contract available at the moment please.

Also, how many megabits do I need and what does that mean?

Thanks to anybody who is still reading my rambly words!

Ok, the first thing you have to know & think about is which network is best for you coverage wise.

Its no good choosing Orange/O2 then finding there is no coverage where you live :?

I have no choice - its Vodafone or nothing here :lol:

I agree - my HTC Desire is the most amazing piece of kit...the best phone I have ever had (& I really like mobile phones)

My Voda contract gives me 600 mins a month, unlimited texts (invaluable with teens around) & unlimited internet access too, for about £22 a month.

I got a sim-only contract from Tesco (O2 signal) - 500 mins, unlimited texts and unlimited internet for £10 a month :D

Is a rolling contract too so you can cancel it whenever you want to.

Obviously sim-only means you have to buy a phone but worked out better for me :D

I've got the same Tesco deal and then bought the orange san francisco for £100. It's a great phone for the money and for twitter, facebook and all the usual android apps it works brilliantly. The camera doesn't have a flash which is the biggest let down but other than that it is great. I could have spent £££ on a phone but I really don't think I'd get much more for the money.

I've got an Orange San Francisco. Its really very good. My husband has got a Sony Ericcson something beginning with V (!) which is almost identical, but not quite as good. I did quite a lot of research as really wasn't sure which phone to get. I read a lot of reviews, and 'Which' reports and the San Francisco came out very favourably. (Also it was free!)

I get unlimited texts, 30 mins of calls and and 'some' internet.

I'm stuck with the coverage we get here, no choice but to have Orange.

my daughter has a sim only blackberry deal for £20 per month from vodafone...600 mins talk time unlimited texts and 1gb of downloads a month.

A word of warning too...My god-daughter recently had her handbag stolen at Covent Garden and was devasted to find that because she had not taken out vodafone's own insurance, her personal belongings insurance didn't cover her, so now she has a contract for two years and no blackberry and no money to replace it (she is an impoverished student) so if you haven't taken out insurance on your phones, or you think your personal insurance will cover you, I really recommend double checking to be sure.... :(

O2 allows you to open an Iphone contract where you supply the phone (if unlocked!) - it's about £15 a month and you get something like 300 minutes, unlimited (which these days means 'limited') data and 500 texts.

If you can get a spare iphone (a 3g can be bought for around £100), it could be a good deal.

I had an iphone... then upgraded to the iphone4 and hated it!

I have now got an HTC desire (z?) with the slide out keyboard and it is so much better! I love it! I have heard that the HTC Desire HD is a pig on battery life though! My contract with O2 is for 24 @£25 a monthe....then there's the VAT....which they never let on about till afterwards!

I got a £15 per month contract for DD and for that she has access to the Blackberry bits and bobs that I paid a £10 or something to get set up & some voice (plenty for her and she has never gone over) unlimited texts, loads of internet browsing including FB & MSN was told she would only risk going over on the internet browsing if she dowloaded loads of things from youtube. It is a Sim only with Orange. When I investigated the best contracts were sim only.

We have HTC wildfires on 3, 300 texts or minutes, 5000 3 to 3 minutes and 500GB internet for £12 pm . The phone cost £20, only light users so don't get close to using it all.

We used this site for find the best deal, really easy to use and specify exactly what you want.

When my brother bought an iPhone, his internet allowance is classed as "Unlimited" but in the small print it says 1gb fair data usage allowance. He uses his for sat nav, facebook, youtube, internet browsing etc and has never gone over his 1gb limit. Chickric - Do you mean 500mb? :)
