Molly ferral cat-*update p 5

Recommended Posts

Oh dear, the vet is at a loss now what to do. Molly is fit and healthy, and will not tolerated Thomas at all, I feel so bad. Since tiggy cat died things have gone from bad to worse. Thomas is covered in scratches and bites she has not a mark on her. She screams even if he walks int the room pees & poos herself. Pooed on my kitchen work top last week  Even DS agrees she has to go where she is the only cat, she seems happy outside very friendly but even there will not tolerate Thomas. Ive tried cat protection and rspca but they are full of kittens and cannot take her. I could'nt bear the thought of her being put to sleep but she is so unhappy I really do not know what to do.

Try contacting local farms & stables to see if they could take her. I know if she came into my branch of Cats Protection that's the type of home we'd be looking for. My friend has three cats that live in the barns on her farm, they're named Kiss, My and a rude word for bottom not suited to a family forum

So sorry it's not working out well and it must be very distressing for you as well as the cats :(

Has the vet tried already tried zylkene as well as feliway? Might be worth a try if it's not already been done.

Other than asking friends, work colleagues and family if they could take Molly, you could look on the catchat website to try to find a local shelter that could take her. They list smaller private shelters as well as the large national ones. I'm sure you would miss her, but fingers crossed you can find someone to offer Molly a home where she can be happy as an only cat.

Just a thought but is there any way you could isolate her from Thomas? Could she live in one room only or is that not practical? I have a cat who wees and poos everywhere because he hates the neighbours cat coming in (at least I think this is the reason). I now shut him in the kitchen at night and it has solved the problem so far.

As a short term solution, until you can find a new home, can you drug her? We sedated Cleo for six months, gradually weaning her off, as she was doing similar things, attacking the other cats, pooing and peeing EVERYWHERE, and even biting us on occasion. I wouldn't say she's the easiest cat, even now, but she tolerates the others and doesn't bite us anymore or use the house as a litter tray. Mind you, if your cats have access outdoors, having a litter tray inside is in my opinion counter productive. It seems to encourage them to eliminate inside, whereas when I've completely gotten rid of trays, I've generally found that inappropriate elimination problems stop.

the vet has started her on a herbal sedative, but its early days. She has stopped going outside at all and is using the litter trays now, which is a relief. Mind you she did poo & pee all over hubbys trousers that he'd left on the bedroom floor  that'll teach him. She still spits and growls at him, Im not sure why but hubby is not too impressed

Our window cleaner has taken Molly to his house whilst we are on holiday, she really likes him, the situation with Thomas is dire,She just screams the minute he walks into the room. He has chased her a few times but mostly is desparate to be friends :( hopefully Molly will behave herself and Terry will keep her. She is very good at using her litter tray, progress of a sort I suppose

2 weeks holiday and back to find Molly has really made herself at home with Terry. He has thought about keeping her but wants to see how she gets on when I take her home. He feels that as she was there first it should be thomas that goes. I can see his point but Molly has not enamoured herself to Hubby at all. So far she is stilll using the litter tray and there have been no fights but she still hissess and growls even if Thomas walks by. I'll see how she copes with visitors over Christmas before i make a final decision

she was great at the window cleaners house and he is considering keeeping her. Ive had her back for christmas and she was a little calmer but with all the activity in the house she hides away and i rarely see her. Its not a great life for the poor thing. I'll have another chat with the window cleaner and see how he feels about adopting her

My window cleaner still likes her but is unsure about taking her full time, he's happy to look after her for holidays etc. " days ago She and Thomas had a final falling out she ran off and Ive not seen her since. :( Im at home all day tomorrow so I hope she will come to see me if I call her. I know cats often have more than one home so hopefully she has gone to one of them

We have another plan  Molly came back freezing cold and starving hungry so it looks as if she does not have another home anywhere. OH is going to put her own magnetic cat flap into the garage, I have brought a greenhouse heater to keep it toasty (well above 5C) and we a re planning to clear out the junk to set her up with a pad of her own. she will be able to come into the main house if she wants but hopefully will settle in her own place OK

Sounds like a great idea! My cats lived in the garage once (with a heater) because I was unable to look after them for a few months and my parents had them. My Dad has asthma so they couldn't come in the house. They were fine although they did think it was totally beneath them to be confined to the garage and not be allowed into the main residence.
