Chucky Mama
I am beyond disgusted at what the News of the World have done now. I don't want to go over the Milly Dowler case as it has been covered on the forum before and is too harrowing. Today however it is reported that the News of the World (or someone working on their behalf) hacked into Milly's phone in the initial days of her disappearance and when her mailbox was full, they deleted messages When this happened, it lead the police to believe that she was still alive and had deleted the messages herself (or someone holding her may have done I suppose). This sort of behaviour makes me sick to my stomach and I think that people need to stop buying this newspaper to show how this sort of behaviour is not to be tolerated. snowberry
& in the end it all boils down to greed, so that they could get the 'big scoop'... I wouldn't touch that rag, I'm a broadsheet girl
pips_pekins
I am beyond disgusted ..... makes me sick to my stomach .... When I heard about this, I had the same reaction Chucky Mama. I don't buy NOTW. I wonder if people will stop buying this as a result of these allegations.
The Dogmother
I wouldn't touch it either.... ghastly rag I listen to the R4 news of a morning and was astounded at their (alleged) actions

majorbloodnock
Hmmm. On the few occasions I've seen between the covers of one of their papers, I've failed utterly to find any evidence of News Morals Intelligence If the allegations are true, that's a serious criminal offence, and the previous phone hacking activities leave NOTW with little credibility to lose. Say what you will about the freedom of the press, but it'll be wonderfully satisfying to see NOTW on the receiving end the wrath of Fleet Street. I can think of few more fitting legal punishments. Egluntyne
I wouldn't hang it on string in my outside privvy. I sincerely hope this private detective, and all others involved face charges if the allegations are found to be true. It's time the press were brought to heel over matters such as this. beach chick
I think Rupert Murdoch's proximity to the current Govt may make cracking down extremely hard on News International a bit unlikely... but vile beyond belief. maybe one thing to hack the phone of a famous footballer who is 'playing away'; but the phone of a missing teenager, and deleting messages?? ugh. chicken bark
It is disgusting. I wonder how many other cases they have got involved with. No morals at all.
yvonne
Beyond words - how do these people sleep at night ? I think celebrity tittle-tattle is one thing - after all many of them love the publicity, but to tamper with a missing person/murder investigation shows a complete lack of morals/respect for humanity which defies belief. Reikiranf
As far as I'm concerned any newspaper published by Murdoch is a rag! I bet his whole empire is rotten to the core.

Old Speckled Hen
The " Dirty Digger", as his hacks always called him, owns half the media world, a bit like the media mogul in Tomorrow Never Dies. He owns Sky, half of BkyB,The Sun, TheTimes and Sunday Times in the UK and Newscorp has its tentacles worldwide. He Owns 20th Century Fox and his tactics with Fox Broadcasting nearly bankrupted CNN. A nasty piece of work but will always be remembered for busting the unions here in the UK with Maggie Thatcher's blessing. I'm surprised he never got a knighthood. beach chick
having said all that about Rupert Murdoch, I met him a couple of times in the late 80's for work, and he was absolutely charming and VERY polite, even to me the minion on the team; more than charming actually, seemed genuinely interested and ready to listen. however manners maketh the man probably doesnt apply when building a media empire!! Egluntyne
The most despicable aspect of this hideous saga is that Millie's family were given hope that she was still alive because texts were being deleted ... and for that reason alone heads should roll. scarlettohara
Wouldn't anyway My Mum worked for The Sun for 20 years from when it was first founded so we got that and the NOTW free but never read them then either

Met him loads of times too (in fact he gave me perfume every Christmas and Birthday which I was very impressed with as I was only about 10 ), it's his son who really has control of everything now and he is nothing like his Dad
Old Speckled Hen
The most despicable aspect of this hideous saga is that Millie's family were given hope that she was still alive because texts were being deleted ... and for that reason alone heads should roll. To lose a child in that manner is any parent's worst nightmare. I can hardly imagine how they are feeling now. Journalism used to be perhaps not a "Ooops, word censored!"le profession but at least a decent one. The media has foisted a hunger for the macabre on the gullible and an indecent race to pander to it. The editor should be jailed!
The Dogmother
Rebekah Brooks said earlier today that she was appalled about the hacking but denied all knowledge and therefore responsibility for it. In my book (and I used to be married to a journo) she has ultimate responsibility. It is not at all unusual (in fact standard procedure) for a journalist to protect their source, but only to external sources, not their editor who has a duty to know. The Dogmother
so is it now a standard procedure with the red rags to hack the mobile of nay person who has been abducted or murdered? Ye gods, are any of us safe?
Old Speckled Hen
I have just heard that the police are contacting the parents of Jessica Chapman and Holly Wells We need to put these people out of business Yes I'd heard that. They will not be put out of business though. A new broom will be installed, there will be some cosmetic brushing under the carpet and It will all be forgotten, sadly.
