Peaches
Ever done this .... heard a song and thought, I really like that and then over time work out that the lyrics aren't quite as cheery and happy as you thought?? I've heard this song which sounds a bit sufer-dude, West Coast-laid back, a nice summer's day-type thing but Ithink the lyrics are about a kid shooting other kids??!! (The song's Pumped Up Kicks, in case anyone has heard it.)
Alis girls
Ooh yes - classic boob - Bruno Mars - Grenade - I was happily wabbling the chorus and ES told me off for singing "...put my head on a plate for yer" - should have been " .... put my head on a blade for yer" Frankly I dont know which is worse plate or blade - I count myself as a hip 49 yr old chick with dodgey hearing. I have done some howlers in recent yrs
Aga n Chickens
I remember a couple from a few years back Bad Moon Rising by CCR when they sang 'There's a Bad Moon on the Rise'.......I thought it was about a party in America and someone was asking for the loo! (There's the Bathroom on the Right). The other was Little old wine drinker me by Dean Martin. I was once told to listen for the line where he mentions his love leaving for Florida on the Train, but when you listen, he sings it as if his 'Baby left a fl**ter on the train. (The song's Pumped Up Kicks, in case anyone has heard it.) Yes I have. 'O.N.E' by Yeasayer is a very happy sounding song, all light and bubbly, but its about a couple who've split up and he is very glad they aren't together anymore or about giving up an addiction to something (not sure which as I thought it was the 1st but after reading the lyrics, it is probably the 2nd ). I think this is why I like Lady Gaga - her songs are mostly cheery pop songs, but the lyrics are quite dark.

Alis girls
A bathroom on the right would have been far more useful I think I do hear some funny lyrics esp the rappers which my sons listen too - Chipmunk a young 20 yr old British rapper - I was convinced a line in his latest single was "i'm bowling champion" - I really dont think it was - I cant see this young chap on a bowling green

yvonne
Adam Ant's Prince Charming 'showing me your hamster' - think this was "showing them you're handsome" but I may be wrong. In terms of not realising what a song was really about, I remember both Golden Brown (Stranglers) and Puff the Magic Dragon and loving both of them as a kid - clearly now their real meaning is obvious. Apparently "Turning Japanese" was also one I will not explain on a family forum. My German pen pal's brother loved heavy metal (he was about 10) and happily ran around singing lyrics he did not understand which were, well misogynistic to say the least - quite amusing as he did it in front of all sorts of elderly relatives and I was the only one who knew what he was singing. meezers
Of course it works in reverse as well. We had a similar thread on another forum and someone posted their version of lyrics to 'Golden Brown'. Now I know it goes ' lays me down, with my mind she runs', but the poster thought they were singing ' lays me down, with my machine gun' - can't get that out of my head now, whenever I hear the song those are the lyrics I hear

Charlottechicken
I loved the TOTP episode when Dexy's Midnight Runners sang "Jackie Wilson said". Some plonker at the Beeb thought the song was about the darts player Jocky Wilson, so Dexy's had to perform in front of a giant photo of Jocky Wilson I actually remember watching it when it was aired and thought how odd it was

I had to revive this thread as my 7 year old has loved this song since it was released but I have only just realised that when he sings along he sings "better run better run faster than my body" instead of the word bullet...such a cute mistake and makes me imagine little kids in a running competition. Alis girls
for the younger ones on the forum - There is a song in charts called "move like Jagger" - I thought it was "remove your jacket" kids soon put me right and another has "just me and you and the coats in the back room..."
