My lovely OH has just bought us a cube!! - Update 19/08/11

Recommended Posts

(they seem quite bendy when they're not attached) but it will probably be easier to do when you've go the missing "arch"?

They are quite bendy, but the way these have been bashed about I really don't know how some of them got into the state they're in... they're almost crumpled like they've been shoved in somewhere with no care or thought about their condition and left for a long long time - they're not just little kinks! We did try and shape them between us yesterday but brute force just wasn't doing it.

I'll wait and see I guess!

Oh dear that's a bit disappointing for you. But the cube is the main thing and it looks in lovely condition. I thought you said it was £400? did he charge £50 for delivery

Yup!

Crikey. At least you know you could sell it tomorrow for more than you paid (not that you would but must make you feel better!)

Finally got hold of the seller - he at first said he'd have a look for it. Then he rang my OH and said something like 'because I bought my cube and extension in 2008, it didn't come with a run frame' - which I think is a lie - as I'm pretty sure the run frame has been around at least as long as 2008 - anyone with a 2008 cube care to weigh in on this? He seems to think his cube run stood up absolutely fine and never required a run frame - perhaps this is why the run panels are warped beyond recognition? Withstanding fox attacks with reinforcements!

Hmmm, the instructions I had to assemble the cube definitely include the arch - seems silly to tell people to build something with a component they wouldn't provide?

If this particular cube (bought new 2008) doesn't have an arch as standard, that would definitely explain the state of the run panels.

Hiya!

Yes thanks I have spotted them but the second one doesn't come with the support as it's the original 1m section that goes straight on the cube - and the first one is waaay too expensive when I factor in getting a courier for it!

I am keeping an eye out though, however if others think the structural integrity (eg. holding a fox's weight without bowing and becoming unsafe) shouldn't be compromised without the frame then when we let the chooks out to FR on saturday I'll assemble the extension and see if the sides straighten out :)

I have been following the thread and was sorry that you were having problems. The cube looks lovely though so hopefully you will be able to get things sorted out. I would love a cube...I won't let OH read this  I keep having a sneaky peek to see if there is anything on marketplace...just looking

I would just buy your support arches, it is unlikely you will get anywhere with your seller,

Indeed - though I must say my OH wouldn't have bought this if it wasn't such a bargain for what it described. Now we're £450 worse off with a cube run not much bigger than the eglu run we had to dismantle in order to build the cube - so we can't even use the eglu run at the moment due the all the bolts and washers having to be removed in order to build the cube, so it's a very expensive "relocation", my OH feels. We were planning on using the spare eglu for intros, but that will have to wait.

I think he's mostly annoyed because if someone advertises something as 'a cube with extension' you expect the complete parts to be there, and if not, for it to say so. I feel bad for him as he was very excited to give the girls more space at such a good price but it's turning out to be costing more than he originally wanted to pay.

Some people may think he's wanting something for nothing, but in honesty he's just wanting to live the best he can within his means. So I don't think he should feel he should throw money at the problem, especially as Omlet has said the seller should pay for the arches if the original advert said it came with an extension and didn't mention missing parts, and their returns policy says if you query within 30days of receipt you're entitled to a full refund if the product isn't as described.

If someone did this on ebay, it wouldn't be considered 'fair', I don't think. So I don't think he's being unrealistic in his expectations really - because no matter what price you pay you expect to pay for to be what is described.

Poor lad, he tries his best

I guess its the danger with buying something unseen, most people would collect their purchase (ebay or otherwise) so have a chance to back out of the purchase if they feel the product wasnt as described

Its worth looking at the ad again, if the glug and grub werent mentioned or the run wasnt described as in good condition you may have less grounds for action

I'd suggest asking for a refund in the first instance if you are that unhappy, that may well give the seller an option to give you a partial refund as the hassle involved in getting it back to them may be more than they are willing to take on

Whatever you do its worth doing it offline, hopefully the seller isnt a member of the forum or they may not be very charitable, I was recently accused of being a liar on another forum and its not a nice feeling!

I agree with you tasha, but omlet's buyer protection is in place for instances like this, and their policy says you can request a refund or return within 30 days IF the item is not as described - however upon contacting omlet to ask to see the listing again (once it's bought it completely disappears, unbeknown to us at the time) - they told us it had been 'deleted from their server' once we bought it. I think that's very silly if their 30 day return policy relies on the listing being used as evidence the item isn't as described :/ they told us that 'it's like ebay so you have to sort it out between yourselves' but that's not how ebay buyer protection works, and if it was left to sort out between us it would basically boil down to (and has, in this instance) my OH's word against the seller's, and a stalemate! :(

Probably not what you want to hear at the moment, as you are obviously disappointed, but I would just buy replacements for the missing parts, and put the whole thing down to experience. It will still be the amazing bargain you refer to in another thread, as usually Cubes with extensions go for a great deal more than you have paid. It could be argued that the price reflected the condition of the product.

I think you got a good buy, okay it has a few issues but you bought second hand, you have to expect that.

£50 for delivery of a cube is reasonbale I think, they are not light and would have taken up a lot of his room in his van, he's a courier he has to earn a living. :)

I agree with Redwing, you have mentioned in your posts that you believe him to be lying, that isn't really the best way to go to resolve any issues with him IMO. :? if they are a member of the forum and read that, it wouldn't be nice. He may have used his cube in the way he explained perfectly fine, had you visited him prior to sale to view in situ you could have seen for yourself but thats the risk you took. Good luck with it.

Absolutely, and for me at least, the emphasis is more on seeing that listing and knowing I'm not losing my marbles, that these faults weren't mentioned and it was listed slightly deceivingly. But then I didn't buy this or extend my overdraft in order to bag a bargain that said 'very good condition' on it, so I can't possibly comment on how I would feel if I was faced with taking the 'oh well' approach, all I can do is empathise with him and try and find out as much information as I can about what we do and don't need to have to get this run extension is working order. And right now I'm getting mixed messages - some people are saying there was a time when the cube had no pole, some are saying it isn't necessary, omlet say it should always have had a pole, so I'm not sure whether the chooks will be secure in my garden which has a foxden right next to it (my neighbour I recently discovered keeps chickens, and has shot 14 foxes with his air rifle (one for every chicken they've murdered)) - so integrity of the run is important to me and at the moment I'm not 100% sure.

EDIT: edited to remove typos now I'm on me lappy :)

If Omlet have some sort of 30 day cover on purchases even if not made through them then I'd really be looking to them to find that advert, I agree with you that their assurances seem a bit off without being able to provide the ad

Despite the disagreements over the arch I think its unlikely the seller will come up with it so its probably best to decide that either this is a bargain even with the extra cost of the arch taken in to account or that its simply not worth it

Note that at the moment there is a red cube, glug, grub and extension on ebay for BIN £595

If you do decide to use the extension without the arch then use plenty of cable ties pulled tight, trim the ends off and the result will be quite neat, if a fox were to jump on the run it may well dip a bit but the fox will unlikely to be able to pull the parts of the run apart

Thanks tasha, this was a very helpful post :)

I have already used a bunch of cable ties on the first part of the run as naturally most of the clips were very worn, so if they will do for the extension too I have a bunch leftover and can then decide what to do re. the arch. (Probably wait til the end of the month when I get paid!).

I am still a bit miffed about omlet's customer service on this one though...

Marketplace Terms and Conditions

These are the terms and conditions for use of the Omlet Marketplace by all website users.

3.1 You must inspect each Item You purchase immediately upon receipt to ensure that it is in accordance with the description provided by the seller.

3.3 Omlet will repay the buyer the full selling price of the Item if the following conditions are met:

Deleting a listing completely off their server before the 30 days was up was very very off :?

My cube train was extended with out an arch for a while, the cable ties work better than the clips. I did buy an extra arch which did improve the shape of the run, but it was fine without and my girls were secure. Whilst I can empathise with your annoyance, I do agree that any accusations on a public forum like this should be made with great care though.

I have bought a couple of support arches to add to my cube and run (with 2 extensions now) - one is attached to the end which makes a very good sturdy door for cleaning out now. And loads of cable ties (courtesy of OH's work - well, he's the boss and he pays so it's good for me). Metal links for large chain fencing help to secure it too - like hinges. I think as it was a bargain, £20 or so for a support arch isn't too bad. He may very well not have had a support arch at the time anyway.
