GCSE results on Thursday - good luck everyone!

Recommended Posts

My son did Geology in yr 9 and got an A and he did his RS short course this year and got an A* getting 100% in one paper. I am so proud of him, he had a rough start at school had loads of speech therapy and uses a laptop because his handwriting is illegible. This is really building his confidence for next year and the rest of his GCSE's. I am one proud mum :D

Well done all

Do kids really sit that number of exams  ? Or is that over a period of 2 years? (Bit ignorant of the English system, sorry!)

Depends, GCSE maths can be set in modular (have a test at the end of each module throughout 2 years) or linear where you have 2 big tests in the summer after yr10 & yr11. Some subjects like photography are completely coursework so you just do it throughout the year. And then sciences you have 1 piece of coursework per science, then 3 separate exams per science. So 9 exams in total for science... similar for English lit/lang. It's all different and depends on the exam board the school uses.

I think I sat 20 tests in total though for 10 gcses, other schools do more/less though.

-----Forgot to say those 20 exams were over a 3/4 week period.

Well done to everyone :D

I got confused when DD gave me her results on the phone. She said that she had 7A*s which was true but some were in modules of the same subject and so overall they amounted to 5 :? With the first year GCSE results we have found that a lot of kids are quoting all of their modular results instead of the overall subject which makes it sound like they have masses (can't say I blame them  )

I really have 16 Gcse well 15 gcses because 2 are half.

But thats because we were fast tracked and then ended up doing extra gcses rather than starting as levels which was what was first suggested.

Umm i think people usually do about 9-11 i think, but im not to sure.

Schools seem to do a lot of fast tracking now, my DD did her first GCSE in yr9 some more in yr 10 so didn't have so many left to do this year and was able to add in a couple of extra subjects to fill in gaps in the timetable (though she did put in a lot of extra time after school) She was lucky to have teachers who were prepared to put in a lot of extra time and effort to allow these additional opportunites.
