bouldercroft
I moved the girls into the basement this morning as the winds started to pick up and the rain was really coming down hard. Hard to tell who is more freaked out - the chickens or my hubby who was muttering 'its a slippery slope'... We've got lots of torches, lanterns, food and water - I've been baking like it's the end of the world - I swear Irene will put 10lbs on me! We're all ready for the storm! photo by jewilk71, on Flickr photo by jewilk71, on Flickr

bouldercroft
Irene has passed.... she's made a mess of the garden and house (there are shredded leaves and branches everywhere and stuck to the windows too) she brought down a tree limb that clipped the porch roof she flooded my basement (and gave the sheltering chickens an unexpected foot bath) she rained so hard that the pool overflowed she blew a few fuses I dread to think what a cat1 or cat2 would have done... Tonight I am very very thankful. ...and the girls have got cabin fever and really don't want to be indoors anymore
Ain't Nobody Here
I've just watched it on the news - thank goodness you didn't sustain too much damage and you're safe. So sad for those that did lose their lives .
chuckmum6
Sounds like high drama there, glad you are ok! In your post you certainly seem to get some extreme weather, I did realise Boston was like that.

In your post you certainly seem to get some extreme weather, I didn't realise Boston was like that. me neither - when planning the move I looked at the map and thought 'oh, it's on the same latitude as Barcelona - it must have lovely weather' I wish I paid more attention to my geography classes now
Valkyrie
Glad you were all safe. Sounds dreadful and very scary. I expect we'll see what's left of her in about a weeks time.
jennym
when planning the move I looked at the map and thought 'oh, it's on the same latitude as Barcelona - it must have lovely weather' I grew up in Toronto and felt very cheated when I discovered we're on the same latitude as Nice, France. Glad you all made it through relatively unscathed.
Plum
Phew I've been quite anxious about you your chickens. Is the chicken run unscathed? Put all those branches and leaves in with them they'll love it, when they've dried their feet.
