Alis girls
shopping this am in our local Morrisons and the young cashier a very friendly girl in her 20's went "oh yuck" when scanning my mealworms She asked me what they were for - I did wonder re telling her I covered them in melted choc for a tasty snack but told them they were for my hens. She was really interested and by the end of my shop she was telling me her friends gran had hens and I suspect in time say when shes older she might acquire a couple. So doding my bit for chicken keeping. I havent told them at work apart from a nursing colleague as non of them seem to like animals. Cant imagine life without my cats or hens. Plum
Very restrained of you, I never stop talking about mine at work, whether they want to hear or not.
memphisto
I must admit, having only been a chicken owner for a week, I'm converted, completely. Found our one of our near neighbours keeps chickens, never knew until other neighbour mentioned it! We live in a cul de sac of 3 houses and house around in the vicinity, so we don't have a lot of people near us but word has spread already and they've inspired some curiosity as well as egg orders, although my girls aren't laying just yet as they're only 21-23 weeks old. I'm already telling everybody whether they want to hear or not!!
jackian
I talk about mine all the time ,and when I listen to myself I must sound boring I live in a cul de sac as well and was so concerned at first what the neighbours would think...but I could not keep quiet.I talk about my girls far more often than I ever talked about my children
Space Chick
Everyone knows me as the mad chicken lady but then I do sell my eggs at work I try not to talk about them too much to non chicken folk... But thankfully there are fellow chicken keepers at work so we can have our private chats about our hens

Mrs Webmuppet
I was Tescos buying some plastic tarps to go over the chooks runs for the winter, when an elderly couple stopped and said what's that you are getting of the shelf ( it was a little high for this midget to reach) when I told them what I would be using them for they said we have chickens too............Mr W had to stand there while we chatted about chooks for a good few minutes! I also have several chook keeping colleagues.............. can take some time to make coffee if one of them is in the kitchen at the same time! Space Chick
I do always enjoy the quizzical looks at the checkouts when I buy out the reduced cabbages and lettuces
