Downton Abbey Series 2 - (Beware spoilers?)

Recommended Posts

yes I also got confused - its the guy with the dodgey bandage - not sure where they shipped him off too and didnt he have the same surname as the father of the illigitimate baby whose mums name I have forgotten :shameonu: note to self - pay attention.

In my defence i have a family of men who take the P big time out of the programme - they also take great joy in the fact Harry hill also has a Downton moment every week.

Glad it's not just me

I love DA, really great series, but no idea what happened about the guy with the dodgy bandage ... I thought Lord Grantham had referred the story to his lawyers to investigate, but last night it seemed like it was full steam ahead for the lovely Matthew to inherit ... :eh:

The dodgy bandage guy left at the end of the episode last week. He was about to be discovered as an imposter and left before they found out the truth. ( he was a friend of the real Patrick)

Oooooh, thanks Loumabel ... I need to pay more attention, don't I!!!!!?

He wrote a letter to Lady Edith before he left.

Who else spluttered when Matthew suddenly jumped up.........reminded me of a Monty Python sketch....."I'm cured!"

And Lord Grantham suddenly kissing the maid

As soon as Spanish flu was mentioned this episode, I realised Julian Fellowes was displaying one of his big Plot Clues for next week!!

Sundays won't be the same after next week :(

Lady Sybil has spent 4 years thinking and thinking about her love for the chauffeur. After much soul searching she finally decides that the only thing to do is to run off and get married.

All it takes for her to change her mind is her sister saying to her - are you sure this is a good idea - for her to immediately say - silly me, what was I thinking.

Enjoying this series for all of the wrong reasons :)

Don't forget that the five episodes so far have covered 5 years, so there are bound to be bits where you blink and miss it. Each episode does not start at the moment where the last one finishes, time rolls on in between, which is why there are some apparently sudden changes (like the maid leaving and then having a six month old baby; and the disappearance of Patrick not being mentioned again).

Personally I don't mind the anachronistic language. If they were authentic, it would probably alienate a number of (potential) viewers.

I imagine the series cliff hangers will be

- Bates and Anna, specifically Bates gettign arrested?

- Edith and the chauffeur, will they/won't they?

- Matthew and Mary, and their respective marriages (or not).

There is likely to be one more series, so it's unlikely any of these will be finally resolved. I hope that Thomas gets his come-uppance before we leave this series though.

Thomas got nicely shafted last night - I wonder if it'll get worse for him - he doesn't even have a job anymore, I doubt they'd take him back at Downton, even if he asked. O'Brien seems to be learning that her loyalties ought to be with the family rather than Thomas, I hope so, anyway.

As another cliff hanger, I can't believe we've heard the last of the Lord Grantham/housemaid kiss ... :anxious:

Can't believe there's only one more episode left.

I'm hoping he'll get some Downton-related come-uppance. He only just escaped it last series (when he was caught stealing, and trying to frame Bates).

Think I'm starting to sound obsessed

I remember Thomas came very close to getting the heave-ho last year (he joined up, I think, so he could choose a post in the Army, rather than being conscripted as a front line soldier) so hopefully he'll get well and truly expelled this time.

I haven't watched this at all. But last night we sat down & watched it. Oh my god what have we missed! We loved it! We were looking at artefacts in the house too, as 'our look' in our living room is very Downton Abbey! We now want one of those lamps with fringing, an onyx candlestick & an Aspodistra plant!

Loved the costumes & the acting is very very good!
