Loudest alarm clock available?

Recommended Posts

Fireworks?

A bomb might be more appropriate :D

Lewis and my son keep similar hours  - we were chatting about it last time Lewis called in.

A cockerel wouldn't work either - he sleeps through 6 of them when he's here

He slept through a big earthquake in the 80s when we were in North Wales - he was in the top bunk and the bed was in the middle of the room when he woke up instead of against the wall

It does worry me a bit that YS won't be able to get himself up when he leaves home for Uni next year :? . Having said that, ES was a bit like that too but seems to be managing fine away from home.

I think psychologically, if they know there is someone in the house who will always make sure they get up when they have to, they switch off their own "getting up" mechanism. That's one theory anyway  .

I used to worry about DS getting himself up as it took a number of reminders from me. I bought him a loud clock that also had a pad that went under the pillow and vibrated, he didn't like it and stopped using it :( .

But when he left home to live with girlfriend who is also bad at getting up he seems to manage with no problems :D

A friend of mine, when he was a teenager, had a very powerful hi-fi system wired up to a couple of large Mordaunt-Short speakers, and the CD player happened to have a timer function. As a result, when he absolutely had to get up on time, he'd load up Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon", pause it at the beginning of "Time" (the one that starts with the polyphonic ringing of all sorts of alarm clocks), set the timer and then crank the volume well up.

He never overslept.

I think that having children has a bearing on how soundly you sleep - well, for some anyway!

I used to be a very deep sleeper and can still sleep at the drop of a hat but sleep much lighter, waking at most noises. Despite being mostly deaf in one ear (due equally to a car accident and too much gigging in my youth  ) I have never slept through an alarm. If I don't want to be disturbed then I use ear plugs.

Rosie is a very heavy sleeper but I have bought her an ipod dock that would wake the dead - let me know if you're interested and I'll PM you the make and details.

If you could PM me that would be great. It may be an idea for Christmas

My son is just the same and nothing we've tried over the years has worked - he's in his 30s now.

You can go in and wake him and have a full conversation which he will not recall later, you can make him sit up and put his feet on the floor........he'll go back to sleep!

Oh Lesley I had hoped YS, who is 17, would grow out of it but he sounds just like your son :(

Its normally when I've stayed up late (4/5am) and so not had enough sleep ... don't sleep much anyway though!

Persuading YS it would be a good idea to go to bed at a reasonable time is difficult as he says he doesn't need much sleep :roll::roll:
