Alis girls
I know there are some cops/ex cops on forum - we have had a flyer from Neighbourhood watch about bogus warrant cards being shown at doors and burglaries. Question - I wouldnt know a bona fide warrant card if I fell over it -what do I look for. Thanks in advance. we are training 10yr old to put chain on (we do have spy hole) - hes typical of a 10yr old carries this too far - got home from a 10hr day and found myself standing on the doorstep begging to be let in as he interrogated me thro a half closed door. stoice
My OH works for the Met. From what I remember his warrant card is in a little leatherette bound case a bit like a wallet. It has a silver shield/coat of arms on one side and his photo ID on the other. (His photo is terrible! ) Think there is a braille section to it somewhere too so even the blind can confirm his ID. snowberry
You could pop into your local police station to ask to see one; I presume they differ from force to force, so you'd know what to look out for
yvonne
Sounds like a question for PatsyLabrador to me
Geoid
I remember being told by a police officer (a real one) if you want to check if the warrant card is real, dial 999, ask for the police and tell them the warrant card number, they should be able to tell you if it is real or not (and if it is fake, they can send the real police around quickly)
yvonne
Not sure they'd want you to dial 999 for this ...
Alis girls
Yes was hoping Patsy might be around - thanks i might nip in and ask to see a card
Lewis
Not sure they'd want you to dial 999 for this ... Yeah, I'd use the Non Emergency number if you were doing to ring up...
Willow
It's a good point. I've recently got a nice young local policeman come along to talk to the cubs about his job. I should have got him to show us his warrant card so we knew what they looked like rather than asking (along with most of the boys I'm such a kid at times) if I could try the handcuffs on btw they are very uncomfortable
Willow
BTW they are rolling out a new consistent non emergency number 101. It's not available everywhere yet. patsylabrador
Stoice's info is all you needed if you live in the Met's area. ID card carries photo, warrant number & rank. Under the photo is also the Commissioner's signature & a hologram. If you're in doubt I would simply refuse entry to your home and ask them to make an appointment. Police would understand, they want people to be aware & safe. I wish people could still phone police stations and speak to a police officer directly. Much easier for police and public alike.
