Awful sight - not a pleasant thread

Recommended Posts

I feel really upset - I help out at a youth club and was driving down a busy side street tonight when in the headlights I saw some thing moving - realised it was a cat and for a moment I thought it was rolling over and over - I then realised it was fitting. I stopped the car and ran back - there was blood everywhere and I touched it and spoke to him,but he had died. I picked him up and put him on the pavement by a wall. Didnt knock on any doors as frankly it was too late and being a coward I didnt want to be blamed. If he was alive I wouldve driven him to vet hosp and gone back and put notes thro doors. What a horrid shock for someone tommorrow - as a cat owner I was really upset. Lovely black long haired cat. The sight of this poor creature in so much pain really was distressing .

Poor you, poor cat. That is so sad. You did what you could. At least people will see him when it gets light.

I found a cat run over in the day, it was already dead. I rang the number on the collar, the owner lived opposite. I was in floods of tears but they didn't seem bothered!

Such a shame but so often cats just don't seen to have much road sense. It maakes me cry if ever I see one run over.

That's just awful. You did all you could at the time and it would be nice to think the cat knew someone was there right at that moment. You know you were and that's all you can do.

I rang the council just on Thursday about a poor wee dead cat on the slip road to a dual-carriageway. It was too busy for us to stop and I didn't want it left there or the owners looking for it and finding it lying like that.

That's the sad thing about cats - they definitely don't have much road sense. Both our cats were killed on the road.

I hope you start to feel a bit better in a few days.

We've witnessed it before too and its horrible, very distressing. You did what you could.

When Dave was killed in July the driver that hit him didn't stop but the car behind did and put him on the verge. I won't go back over what happened to him but I'm glad he wasn't left in the road. :(

Thanks everyone-

- i couldnt leave his little body to be mutilated more - OH walked down there today and said he didnt see the body. Poor owners - its made me appreciate my 2 kitties.I couldnt leave an animal to die if I knocked it over unless it was too dangerous to stop. The guilt would eat away at me.My husband said he moved a foxes body off the road the other day.

I found a dead cat a while back too. It was in the gutter, squashed against the kerb, in between parked cars just at a driveway entrance. It looked like who ever lived there must have bumped up over it on the way into their drive.

I took it to be scanned for a microchip as it had no collar. We traced the owners and it turns out it was THEIR driveway.

I lied to them when I said exactly where I found him, as I didn't want them to know that they had run their own cat over...but then they asked me if I had run it over

(((hugs))) A few weeks ago we saw a cat that'd seconds earlier been clipped by a car on a busy A road. He somehow found his feet and ran across the road and into the fields. I would've made Mr Griffin find somewhere safe to stop if he hadn't got up. It had me and Daisy in tears, because it looked like Nancy and it reminded me of the ones we've lost on the road

its taken me most of the weekend to get over it - i was shocked how traumatised I was - pretty strong stomach for most things but this seriously upset me big time. i have grown up with cats and adore them. I have had several animals PTS and found that upsetting but its not traumatic for the animal - this poor little creature died alone and in pain. Thanks for your kind words - I felt cowardly not knocking on doors but was worried about being accused of killing it.
