Chortle Chook
Not thicko at all. Good for you for asking As I know it, a 'spammer' is someone who sends out mass emails, of little interest, to all and sundry. They are things like marketing hype (can cover all subjects including fake medicines) or those emails where you are supposed to pass them on to friends in order to avoid some dreaded fate like a car crash. They are often used as a means of spreading 'viruses', but even harmless ones just clog up your in-box.

Ms Marple
Another one unsure here too. Do they look like what you have suggested above on Omlet then? I am thinking htat I would not recognise a spam on here??
patsylabrador
It's a tool for tightening buts and nolts, hang on a minute that's a spanner.
Christian
Another one unsure here too. Do they look like what you have suggested above on Omlet then? I am thinking htat I would not recognise a spam on here?? They are quite obvious. They usually have strange names like '564hgrt3', but not always. They usually include a link in their first post, or in their signature. The English sometimes doesn't make sense or isn't relevant to the thread... Egluntyne
They also tend to join the forum in the middle of the night, and are based in locations where Omlet are not known to have outlets. Spammers also resurrect ancient threads which are pertinent to their wares and often copy and paste text from other parts of the forum. You get a nose for them
Ain't Nobody Here
We usually sniff them out before they even post . The most satisfying thing is zapping them while they're actually on the forum .
snowberry
I think I was the first to notice & report the 4 you had the other morning (too much time on my hands ), I was suprised to see their account was 'activated' or was that pretend as well? Seagazer
Am I alone in being disappointed that I've never seen a spammer, troll or flamer thread? (or just sad?)
Olly
That's because we Mods never sleep I can tell you that another one has been removed and zapped overnight!
Leicester_H
ghyuyn looks like a spammer to be - have a look before message gets zapped by a Mod.

Olly
Yup - thanks to Snowberry and Looney for reporting those, the spammer has been banned and the posts deleted. Sadly, it takes up quite a lot of our time as Mods.
snowberry
Sorry, I mistakingly thought that we had to have our accounts 'activated' to post on the forum; would that be more of a detterent?

Egluntyne
Sorry, I mistakingly thought that we had to have our accounts 'activated' to post on the forum; would that be more of a detterent? It is done automatically as there is a Captcha wotsit that they have to copy, to prove that they are humans.
Alis girls
but we all have strange names i mean Ali's girls is strange and Christian and well need I go on - are we all Spammers or trolls (didnt they live with the billy goats?) oops I digress - as I say I actually posted on a spammer thread - i suspect my eyesight aint what it was and didnt notice dodgey English
Egluntyne
Forum names tend to be quirky and personal .. but there is a difference between something like Alis girls and xhox976541 .... or names that are clearly that of a business. If ever a genuine member joins, but uses what is clearly a business name, because they haven't fully understood the rules, they are asked to change it.
