Tango's good deed yesterday

Recommended Posts

I just wanted to share this little story with you - it's not very exciting but made hubby and me smile.

We are currently looking after my parents' little terrier X whilst they are on holiday. He is 15 years old, becoming quite deaf and is beginning to develop cataracts but is in otherwise good health (albeit a little grumpy at times, but that's excused at his age  ).

Hubby and I took the dogs out yesterday afternoon for a walk off the lead - despite being a very elderly gent Harry still enjoys a good run about off the lead, but nowadays tends not to investigate far afield, preferring to stay close to you so he knows where you are!

As we were out walking yesterday, it started to rain quite heavily, so we changed direction to head for the hedgeline for a bit of shelter until we got back to the car. We called the dogs and Tango came with us, but Harry obviously hadn't heard and was still running off in the opposite direction. We carried on for a minute and called again, thinking he'd spot us and follow but, bless him, he'd found a good smell and was totally oblivious to the fact we were no longer with him  Tango must have realised that Harry wasn't aware that he was going in the wrong direction as she suddenly shot off across the field, rounded him up and brought him back to where hubby and I were walking - so sweet!

Unfortunately she then totally ruined the moment by pouncing on his back and trying to get him to play  still you can't have everything I suppose!

Aw what a lovely story.

Dogs are definitely tuned in to other dogs' needs - our dog saw (from the living room) that our neighbours two huskies (worth a small fortune!) had run away and barked at me to let her out. I put her lead on and she tracked them at high speed and led me right to them! I was knackered but she was very pleased - and she's only a westie!!

Well done to Tango though! :D
