Cold tips

Recommended Posts

Here's one from my Gran for a sore throat. Even if it doesn't work it tastes declicious. She was a real Victorian (yes really was born in the Victorian age) so this was her chance to 'take a little liquor' for medicinal purposes.

1. Take 1 egg cup

2. Add in 1 tbl spn of dark brown molasses sugar

3. Mix in 1 tbl spn of soft butter and blend with the sugar

3. Gradually stir in one tsp (or more to taste) of dark rum so you have a sort of paste

4. Eat it slowly, little bit by little, savouring it gradually so it slips slowly down your throat.

May you get better soon :D

Edited: a day later

 I forgot to say that as well as the sugar and rum you also need a tbl of soft butter . I've added it in

Get well soon. It's horrid isn't it? I'm just coming down with something...eurgh!

I always have a mug of hot lemon and honey and a couple of paracetamol to pick me up a bit. Ooh, or maybe my blackberry brandy would make me feel better (medicinal purposes only of course  )....just thought of that!

As for 'cold tips', yup I reckon there's a few of us around with those in this chilly weather!:oops::lol:

Oh, I was going to do a thread on this as I started out of the blue yesterday with one and a sore throat. I've been drinking copious amounts of hot vimto with honey and lemon in plus gargling with tea tree oil and water for my throat. Also on paracetamol every four hours. Am peed off as I've religiously been taking a good multi vit for months plus my two week on and two week off with Echinacea (started October time) which usually works :? Must check the the echinacea is in date as I bought it ages ago.

Hope you're soon feeling better chuckmum6. I had a two hour sleep this afternoon so must have needed it.

I started a cold on Monday night, generally I think these things just take their course but I'm desperate to get better as I have three things with the choir this weekend, and I'm supposed to be doing a solo at one of them. Today I've been inhaling steam, and sipping warm water, and also had a couple of spoonfuls of honey for my throat. I'll probably have another steam inhalation and go to bed with a whisky and hot water (no idea if it does any good, but it makes you feel better!)

Hope you soon feel better.

Thank you! I've had a curry, honey and lemon, paracetamol and a sip of brandy. I'm beginning to feel a little more human, although don't look it, as I have red eyes and sudacreme smeared under my sore nose!

 Back to bed now, hoping to be better tomorrow as I've got lots to do! Thanks again and I hope everyone else with sniffles feels better very soon.

Dark Rum and Green Ginger. You don't feel any better but if you take enough you forget about the cold :lol:

I agree! That or a whisky mac (sp?). Whisky and greens ginger. Yummy!! A great nightcap and knocks you out - and taste's better than night nurse!! And I don't like whisky....

Just wanted to add my woes! Have had flu and now a chest infection. Havent been able to rest as i have 3 children under 5, the school run has to go on! Feeling very sorry for myself today, am sooo tired its beyond funny. Have to go back out in the cold soon to pick another little angel up from school. Just want to curl up in bed and hide from the world for a week! Ok, rant over thankyou. :)

Oohhh my heart goes out to you...... I so remember feeling poorly with small children and having to get on with it in spite of everything...Hoping you feel better soon....(and hoping your OH doesn't get it, because there's nothing more irritating than also having to nurse a grown man as well as sort out the babies when you feel like death warmed up yourself.. (as you can see that Boots advert strikes a real chord with me!)...xx

I too remember that stage all too well, when you simply can't be ill - poor you! I'm still feeling like death warmed up, but my ES is helping his dad do the chickens, they have also been and done the shopping together, bless the both! I think I actually have flu rather than a cold - I feel so poorly. :( OH will soon be getting fed up with me, but I can't do anything much, except lie down (and occasional chat on Omlet).
