craftyhunnypie
Sister sent me a link to a piggy for sale. It is technically a micro pig, although I am clever enough to know there is no such thing! However, I would very much like this piggy as a pet, rather than the porkers which we will get in May! Hubby has said no! Bit annoyed really, as I do most of the animal & Smallholding work round here!!! Grrrrrrr What's the point of having 12 acres & just having chickens? Just in a bad mood tonight! Ugh! Emma.x

scubababe
Who's getting the porkers in May...you or hubby? If it's you then you are just tweaking the variety if it's hubby then you are adding the micro into the mix as you will end up doing the looking after them so you might as well have one you will at least enjoy looking after ...just go out and get it and then tell him the kids/he bought it for you as a present Edited January 7, 2012 by Guest
Space Chick
Sorry Em, but I'm with your hubby..... But only because micro piggies are best with company, so you need two
craftyhunnypie
He needs a slap at the min - Egluntyne..fancy doing the honours?! He'll be happy to eat the pork though! Just thought it would be nice to have a pig that doesn't get sent to slaughter! Everyone needs a few pets to love instead of eat - surely? Need to toughen up me & get myself a bossing stick! Said I can have Alpaca eventually - can you imagine the battle I'll have to go through to get them! Emma.x

Everyone needs a few pets to love instead of eat - surely? My friend who has a commercial Organic farm has a pet sow, she could have been food but has been a much loved pet instead... She bred from her for meat porkers when she was younger, but now she is solely a pet... Stunning (but huge) girl she is too
Lewis
I'm with you Em! Pigs are actually really clever. Ours at the farm used to play football - have seen farms of a couple up to a few 1000 in massive paddocks! All love rolling in the mud and having their bellies scratched
craftyhunnypie
Do you think he'd notice if I put some in the far field near my little old ' brew' caravan? I know what set up I'd need - someone on here had a fab set up with piggies ' Bert & Ernie'. They had 2 separate paddocks & rolled the pig ark to give rest to each paddock. Have been studying pig arks & what I could use for a decent pig house. Ducks will also appear soon, but don't tell him! Neighbours have ducks that go swimming on our stream, very sweet! P.S Got a long cardboard tube from some Xmas paper - will it be a good enough bossing stick? Emma.x
Groovychook
P.S Got a long cardboard tube from some Xmas paper - will it be a good enough bossing stick? Emma.x Definitely not... I'd go for the kind you get inside rolls of fabric- much firmer.
Redwing
It depends on whether it was a good quality roll of paper, if its a brown cardboard tube then it will do, if its a white cardboard folded tube then no, it will need reinforcing I say go with the piggy if its previously been kept on its own and if you can give it lots of attention, it wont be long before it has some pals anyway Some of our animals are just pets, it adds a nice stability to things I think and actually makes it easier to see the other animals as food My hubby is putting his foot down too - we are on an 'extra animal freeze' at the moment, I have been told when I have started my new job and I am getting on with it ok I can have what I want then so I am wishing away the time (the next thing on my list is a pony )
craftyhunnypie
Why are hubby's so awkward, yet most of the time it's us who does the animal chores? Why do they always seem to say no to everything? I don't get it, he wanted this place equally as much as me - so why no animals? Hmmm. He's planning to buy a big wooden shed for doing man things in - inventing, tinkering, soldering etc etc. What about what I'd like? Couldn't you just whack them one sometimes! Yooohooo bossing stick, where are youuu? Emma.x
Redwing
If he gets a shed then make sure you get one, I have just had one built to my own specification, its the best money I ever spent, I spend hours in there faffing about with the show birds and in the summer it will become a chick raising shed
