Cheeky Chooky
I ordered a little 'house' apple holder bird feeder for the girls and received it this morning. They are fascinated by this new hangy thing...as well as by the red and green thing sitting inside the hangy thing! (They've never seen an apple...doesn't help that it seems to be the smallest apple in the world! ) but I took some pics a while ago Edited February 11, 2012 by Guest
Luvachicken
Lovely pictures. I wonder who is going to have the first bite ? It does look like a nice tasty apple
Mum
Aww, bless your purse!!! Mine adored my windfalls from my tree (thrown into the WIR without ceremony or fancy ) and really have had a ball FRing throughout Autumn the windfalls the spine/back muscles couldn't be asked to collect It's a very pretty holder though
Cheeky Chooky
Thanks Mum Unfortunately I don't have the option to let the girls FR so I have to enrich their WIR; them taking their time pecking at apples, cabbages, cauliflower etc hanging in the run keeps them occupied and very happy I don't spend money on much else (other than the mortgage and bills ) so I'm more than happy to treat my girls to something pretty and useful for their home

Redwing
Try chopping the apple in half, they tend to peck at them if theycan see the softer inside Once they know that they are food they will demolish a whole apple easily

Mum
Perfectly understand CheekyChooky (wasn't being critical - I love it!) and you do have the most amazing WIR I've ever seen.

I just quite like slightly unusual or funky looking things too, especially as the Cube and Eglu are a bit like that themselves
Cheeky Chooky
Perfectly understand CheekyChooky (wasn't being critical - I love it!) I didn't think you were Mum, honest! and you do have the most amazing WIR I've ever seen. Thank you, that's a lovely thing to say I'd much rather have a large garden that they could potter around in though
Cheeky Chooky
Nom, nom, nom that pomme But then it was gone! It dropped on the floor and a bit of a bundle ensued
lindafw
fantastic pics....I tried had to get up the garden to take a photo of my Poland rooster asleep on the snow lying on the old sun lounger...he was in full sun I admit...but it did look silly. The girls were on the bench snuggled in a line sunbathing

Chortle Chook
Oh I really like both those hangy things. I don't have a WIR but I could hang one up suspended from one of my diddy apple tree branches. I have a chicky play zone with a swing (courtesy of House MD 221B), a sandpit and a climbing frame (a stack of small logs around a big root) and one of those apple things would look sweet in there. Mind you I'm not quite sure whether this area is for me or my chooks as I get more play time re-arranging it, I think, than they get using it. I can't help but notice, Cheeky Chooky how clean your girls are keeping the floor of their WIR with those nice leaves. It looks so nice and dry for them. emmastar
They are from my work and are £2.99 i think they are not huge but the girls like it and run across the garden when they see it ariving If anyone wants one pm me and ill get one posted out to you hey are light so postage will be about £1.
Cheeky Chooky
Thanks Emma I have a bit of a 'thing' about heart shaped things though...they're a bit too cutesy for my taste Seems like you've got a few sales already though! I can't help but notice, Cheeky Chooky how clean your girls are keeping the floor of their WIR with those nice leaves. It looks so nice and dry for them. I'm pleased to say it really is working very well I rake back the leaves and hardwood wood chip and then sprinkle Stalosan directly on the earth before raking it all back and at the moment I'm doing that weekly. I've got no idea what it'll be like in warmer weather Guess I'll just have to wait and see!
goodinparts
Another admiring post....but every time I see your Quail Barbu d'Anvers I do a double take, because I have 2 of their relatives and they are so alike it's disconcerting... I have this "WHO took those pics of Patience & Prudence? Oh no...it's not them......" kind of internal conversation every time! Love love LOVE your setup. If I can ever work out a way to fund a WIR, I'll use yours as inspiration

surfer_chicken
I saw a similar feeder in Aldi and just had to buy it after seeing the pictures of your girls enjoying their apple. It's like this: Now I'm on the hunt for some fruit...
