So there we were; I was telling my kids about The Woman In Black & how spooky scary it is; on the way home I decided to stop the car suddenly in a country lane & turn the lights off. Youngest is still sobbing & won't talk to me, he he!

Naughty mummy moment. Many years ago when I was young - 5 of us went out - 3 girls 2 lads and the boys stopped the car in a country lane and told us about the mad axeman. A young couple had broken down and the man went to get petrol. The girl in the car was startled to hear a banging on the roof of the car and her boyfriends head was dangling over the window. The lads banged on the roof of the car - my friend was so scared she cried. Its based on a true story. Not one for a spooky country lane.

My little ones 10 and hates fireworks too. Are we sharing a child. He hates anything spooky. Eldest of 16 was fine till he saw film "Insidious" (see Patsy's thread) and has been a wreck since. He wants to see Woman in Black but only if mum goes too Hes huge 6ft 1 and s'pose to protect me!!!

I wanted to see this and was even contemplating going myself as OH doesn't 'do' cinemas (he still remembers hating it when people would smoke in the cinema and hasn't gone back ) and my friends were not interested. However DD went with her BF and said it was terrifying That has put me off a bit

I wouldn't dare go & see this - I have too vivid an imagination. I can't do scary films any more. Still haunted by Pet Cemetry from years ago! Yes you are a naughty mummy for frightening your child!

I remember going to see teen wolf years ago & on the way home, one of the lads had a hairy wolf hand & put it on my shoulder! Arrrrgh!

I can't watch scary films either, Emma. I went to the cinema last night to see The Artist, and they were showing a trailer for The Woman in Black, that was scary enough for me never mind watching the actual film.

I was going to see the Woman In Black with some of my friends this holiday but it never happened, we would have of been terrified anyway if we did!

We watched to original film at school, as we did an essay on the book - that scared me enough, and I was frightened for a couple of nights after watching it! The new film is apparently much worse, when we watched the trailer we were all terrified!

I want to see it. The twins saw the play which they said was very scary and I've read the book. MS went to see the film and came home a little wide eyed. I must go.

 

I used to live in Manton, a small village just outside Marlborough in Wiltshire, as a group we used to walk into town to the pub and the route we took went through a graveyard. It was creepy with huge yew trees and gothic gates. The boys always thought it was funny to jump out and scare us.

 

When the kids were older I used to read them books like Dracula or Turn of the Screw. It was fun, we all love a proper ghost story here especially around Christmas time.

I went to see it yesterday and wasn't overly impressed to be honest. It is much better and more scary on the stage. Was impressed by Daniel Radcliffe's performance though, I didn't think Harry Potter once!

My YD was really worried about going to see it for her friend's birthday last week, but she said that it was ok.

 

My two worst naughty mummy moments were, throwing the top of a tomato into the bath when my ED was about 3 and she screamed the place down thinking it was a spider (that was the intention, but I didn't intend to traumatise her ) she still hasn't forgiven me, and I did a similar thing with YD, when she was the same sort of age she had a habit of going to sleep by her bedroom door, which meant we couldn't get in, I went up there one night when I knew she was lying there but not yet asleep and I ran my fingers under the door again in a spidery sort of a way, and she also screamed the place down. No more spiders for me

I have laughed at this and the Insidious thread (sorry Patsy) - I sometimes put the wrong undies out for my YS - like a pair of my knickers just to see if hes on the ball - he is. He gives me major grief re spiders so wouldnt do anything like that to frighten him.

I traumatised my DD when she was about 7 and we went to the Zoo (Marwell) and I pointed out she was wearing red, and we were standing outside the (then I don't think they have them now) Wolf enclosure She's 22 now and she has still not forgiven me.....sorry..I just couldn't help myself , just because you are a mother doesn't stop you from being human does it?

My two insisted on watching that Bruce Willis one where the little kiddy sees dead people. OH thought no they're too young. But I didn't think it was that bad. We had 2 children that we had to share beds with because they were too scared. Since then DS and DD are hardened scary film watchers! Can't say the same for their dad though. When we were "courting" I had to pick him up from his house, take him back to ours because my mum had brought The Exorcist home with her on video. So he scared himself silly and then I had to drive him home. All because he didn't want to drive himself home in the dark!

 

But on Valentines night (we never celebrate it at his request so I thought I do some reverse psychology on him) I had lots of red shiny hearts and scattered them all on his side of the bed. Later that evening I went and sat in the bedroom and it immediately went wrong because he saw me and screamed (he screams like a girl) and then he hopped into bed. Then BOINNNNG just as quickly as he got in he leapt out screaming "what have you doooooooone???" He thought I'd put blood in the bed and the odd little hearts looked like stab marks and he wondered what I'd killed and would he be next! Of course I had cracked up by then. Although it's quite insulting that he thinks I'm a psychopath!

Oooh the stories I could tell you about him! I'm truly surprised he hasn't had a heart attack yet. I don't know why he thought I'd do something so messy! DD is good at scaring him too. She learnt from the Master.

Oh poor man - wimpy men somehow seem worse than wimpy women.

Yep, he hides behind me when we walk through fields with cows. There were a lot of heifers that were playing with us one time (they were running up, stopping short and running away) and I was playing back and shooshooing them - they enjoyed the game. OH didn't! Another time he ran off and left me with a stroppy cow charging the fence (I think she must have had her calf taken away and was not a happy girl) when we were walking the other side of it. We were pretty safe though - so I thought, nice sturdy fence - I just kept talking to her as I plodded on normally. She went and charged some other cows instead and they all scattered. I thanked OH for his chivalry.

 

DD likes to flatten herself on the stairs and yell BOO when he comes in the front door. OK she's 20 next month but hey ho it's not stopped me at 53! His normal reaction is to turn a scream into singing Alllllllelujiah! We all know we caught him out.

I wouldnt recommend walking thro a field of cows when pregnant. When heavily pregnant with ES and on holiday we did a country walk - blooming things started following us. I was worried about being trampled on. OH shooed them away - a few days later we read of an MP's realtive being killed by charging cows.
