Pro - Does anyone else's nest boxes get soaked in rain?

Went in YS's school bag to get his waterproof out for a cub camp this weekend and pulled out a flimsy plastic bag of yuck - the sort of yuck you arent sure what it is. Took it outside so that if it were specially yucky I wouldn't have to clean it up and found what I supect was a plant grown - weedy looking - stuck it back in pot and put in kitchen window to recover - suspect its already halfway to plant heaven. The other thing I think is a fat bird feader - certainly fat with seeds in - in a broken plastic cup!! Put that out for birds with a supply of Rennie. Couple of weeks ago after a trip to science museum I found what I can only describe as fluorescent goo - which had leaked - purpose of which I can't imagine.

When I asked him what the plant was I got a typical 10yr old boy answer which I wont print as it might offend - any mums/dads of 10yr old or similar will know where I am coming from.

A teacher friend once found some mouldy acorns complete with maggots in a childs drawer.

Just wondered if other parents had found anything nice in their childs bag

I found a sandwich shaped lump of mould sealed in a plastic bag on top of some cupboards in my teens room (why the bin would have been closer ), and have found similar in drawers He's very recently had a lovely new bedroom & en-suite created/decorated with masses of cupboard and shelf space so no excuse for skuzziness but it is . The last couple of days I've been saying to him I can smell citrus mould in his room so he is to search for were he has stashed away an orange from his packed lunch

I used to collect animal skulls as a child,

I still remember my mum squealing when she pulled a mouses skull out from my coat pocket just before

she washed it. I would also recuse frogs and toads in my school bag to put into our garden pond my poor mum

longed for me to play with Sindys and ask for make-up.

Rosie's room has a strange smell about it at the moment, she doesn't have any homework this evening so I've told her to get clearing.

I once had a child not feeling well so I let him stay in at break and asked him to collect up the maths books.

 

Next day a child came to me and said he couldn't get his maths book out because they were all stuck together

 

You guessed it... the first child had collected the books, put them in the drawer and thrown up into the drawer closed the drawer and not said anything

 

Fortunately it was only about October, so we threw them all away and started again

I found four of my biggest towels festering in the boys rooms,apple cores with fur coats on and plates

under the bed - i don't go in there very often but there was a moldy smell when i walked past.

OH left a rabbit he had shot in the back of his car and couldn't work out why he had a fly infestation.

Rosie often leaves her school bag on the floor, so the sossidge hounds clear it of edibles for her

At the end of the summer holidays I found a lunch bag in my daughter's room which had the remains of a packed lunch from before the summer holidays! The contents were unidentifiable by that time, but I really wished I hadn't opened it - the whole lunch bag went in the bin and had to open the window for hours!!

I have bought and re bought my jade green bath sheets...in theory I have 4...oh and a neon pink one...all are supposed to be on the towel stand in my bedroom...are any of them there????

 

 

Don't be silly.........................then they turn up smelling and mouldy because they got lost...in the world on grossness under a sons bed...would be ok if they were teens but they are all in their 20's and YES they have got towels of their own...but they don't know where!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have no doubt my time will come, but at present, although we have had some scuzziness, my three boys have not yet left me any nasty lurkers. (I am sure it is only a matter of time though!)

I have to confess to one myself - OH reminded me of when we were crabbing in Mudeford there is a place where you can get bait (fishy bits) for the crabs. i left ours in a warm car and the smell was er awful a bottle or 2 of frebreeze and windows open eventually did get rid of - but lets say mum wasnt popular for a while

A while ago I look an apple to school so that I could draw it for my Art homework (being the good girl I am I hadn't done it and was planning to do it during break and lunch). I did part of my homework during break, then put the apple away so that I could finish my work at lunch. For some reason I had a bit of a brain malfunction, and completely forgot about said apple. I made up the rest of my art homework from memory, I had no idea why I didn't remember that apple

 

Anyway, a couple of months ago I found what can only be described as rotting apple goo in the front pocket of my school bag.

 

Suffice to say I always do my Art homework at HOME now!

I have two very scummy teens, YD has always got a collection of plates and cups in her room, and sweet wrappers down the side of her bed, and makeup stains everywhere. DS just seems to stuff his socks and undies everywhere, the usual haul when I complain is about a fortnight's worth. I have tried to reduce the amount that he actually owns, so that he might realise and clear them into the wash more often, doesn't really work though He also went off the flapjacks that I used to send him to school with for break, and there were rather a lot of squashed ones in his blazerthe last time I washed it. ED is better at 18, but she still comes downstairs with an armful of mugs from time to time.

This thread has made me laugh.

Just the usual mouldy lunch for me in my kids bags. However, I pulled out the bottom draw in my sons room once as it was stuck and found a number of mouldy items stuck to the carpet. I cleared it up and questioned my son when he got home from school (he was about 6 or 7 ish at the time) only to be told it was a 'Mould Farm' and an experiment to see how long different things took to go mouldy

 

I used to have a 'corpse collection' when I was about this age. It was a long thin box which had a bracelet in and in it I had a dead butterfly, a moth, a bee, a wasp, a fly and a couple of blackbirds eggs

I think the result was his Mum ruined it for him. He is 16 now. I think I might ask him later and see if he remembers

My friend whose house is immaculate despite 2 kids says I'm too soft letting them eat in their rooms. I draw the line at takeaways, grease and cereal and milk but short of patrolling the hall and searching them every time they exit the kitchen I feel lifes too short for making rules which will cause silly rows. i insist on family meals and the odd snack or 10 in the bedroom wont kill anyone - except them if they decide to grow mould farms, penicillin crops or any other nasties.

Well, i know have a little confession.

I use bits of lamb and beef as training treats - i have just got out my training vest that i haven't worn since

last spring to find a bag with something green, greasy and fluffy .

I think it was some lamb bits in a previous life!

I find the same with those chopped up frankfurters and cheese - doesn't half whiff.
