Are you there when they are or do you leave them to it????? I have an active doggy, some a wondering if he'll be a problem or whether to take him out while they are here... Any advice???? Thanks K
Angie
I would love a lady to do, the pulling out of furniture to hoover behind, the skirting boards , the things i can't do ,etc... not looked into it . But i have got a garden service to come and do the front and side garden . (I can just manage the back garden as it is mostly grass and the chickens in their run ) And only so the fronts look nice to other people, i hate it looking a mess. I could really do with some help too maybe twice a week, perhaps i should look around. Could start by seeing if there is anyone in the church mag or the hall board. At present i do a difficult job a day, i can't do more or i end up fatigued and nothing gets done. You could try miss mopps or other such agencies and see how much they charge . I'd love to get the ironing done too. I hurt badly after doing the ironing. Oh to have my old life back !
quickcluck
We are similar in sooo many ways! Will look into the agency thing, hadn't thought of that, at least that way they are vetted in some way or another.....
Olly
The best thing is to ask around friends, neighbours etc to see if anyone can recommend someone. I use an agency, you pay a bit more but then if the cleaner is away or on holiday, they will send someone else to do it; also it gives you a bit of reassurance about vetting, insurance etc. I would wait and see about the dog - it might be easier to take him out for an hour or two while they are there, but equally they may be happy to work around him. I wouldn't be without my cleaner, I am able-bodied but work full time, and it is so lovely to come home and find it all clean and tidy. The Dogmother
I'd love one too - I love cleaning but like Olly, I have so little time to do it properly myself. Just wish I could afford one.
freddie
ask around, as someone will keep popping up. Mums of little ones are usually good, although school hols can be a bit difficult . I've done it, when mine were little, cash, plus a workout. Bonus!! My s in law does it, same reason. She's good, and even makes cakes whilst doing the clean for one of her more mature customers...We're nice down here in Devon!!
mostin
We have a lady for 2 hours on a Friday, to make the place respectable for the weekend so we can relax instead of spending it cleaning We used the same agency that a neighbour used. It took a couple of ladies but then we found the perfect fit. The lady we have now loves the cats and the chickens, and will even come and look after them if we are away for the weeken
superkitty
We have a lady that does - got her through an ad in our local shop. She comes for a half day once a week and we LOVE her. She's grown to be a friend over the years and I'd trust her with my life - she comes and checks in on the cats and chickens every day if we're away, and even puts our bins out etc. if we're not here. We often say that there would be a lot of things that would go (if our financial circumstances changed) before we said goodbye to her - she has been a total godsend. Both of us hate cleaning and it used to be the source of a lot of arguments, not to mention begrudging having to spend half of our weekend cleaning when it's the only 2 days we get off at the same time. If you can find someone, go for it!
quickcluck
Am still looking...... any ideas on an average hourly rate? I'm guessing about the £10 mark..... or am I deluding myself :-
AndreaT
I have a lady that does, in fact she due to arrive in about 15 mins! She was recommended by some friends from work and she is actually a cleaner at our workplace which is how they found her. She only charges £8 an hour as it's cash. I originally got her last year when my back went but I couldn't do without her now even though she only does one and a half hours a week. Mrs Potts
We had a lady that does, but she is now a friend that does. We have had her for about seven years, two hours a week so that we get a weekend without housework - worth it's weight in gold to me. £10 per hour now, she was recommended by an elderly couple across the road from us. Originally she came through an agency but eventually left and then became freelance. Going to her hen night dinner on Friday!
chuckmum6
We posted an advert in our local paper, got a lot of people who enquired (a wide range), got it down to four who we interviewed. We could have employed 3, but I get along great with our lady, she also babysits and her hubby deals with our cockerels and gets them ready for cooking (he is a butcher). I am at home on the day she comes most weeks, but I trust her and feel we have a great relationship. She is paid £30 for 4hrs, she is happy, so are we. I wasn't at all keen on the idea, but am so glad we have her, we have very busy lives and this really helps take the pressure off our weekends. Good luck. mostin
Just to add a bit more to my post in view of cost conversation. Our lady is now a very good friend. She's not with the agency any more so it's £8 an hour cash and 6 or 12 eggs, depending on how hard the girls are working
millie
I'm a cleaning lady!!dont think i could make the commute though My friend and i charge £10 p/h, thats about average for around here. Check out adverts in shops, post office, paper, internet, but word of mouth is best, then you have a good idea of who you are letting into you home. Always get references, check them, anyone who has nothing to hide wont mind. But dont forget the taller they are, the higher they reach!!! Good luck with your search. Purplemaniacs
But dont forget the taller they are, the higher they reach!!! I would never make a 'Lady that does' then being only just 5ft on a good day Perhaps that explains the state of my house, it has a lived in look Chrissie
