Ain't Nobody Here
We got a sheaf of letters from HMRC today and after poring over them trying to make sense of them, I think we're due a rebate of £2,310.75 . Won't be dancing for real until the cheque arrives though . This includes a payment of £10.42 in interest because they haven't paid us back before now . Gertie
Great stuff! I had same happen to me last year and got one payment of £2500 and then another £800 in my next pay packet. Brilliant! But I can't believe I didn't notice I was getting underpaid for 3 years! I don't understand tax!

Duncan08
Even when on PAYE it is always worth keeping an eye on your tax. There are often mistakes, and you won't always get to hear about them. Luckily this time it was in your favour and you have ended up with a lovely windfall (But do check the calculations - there may yet be another error). The same thing happens to people the other way around and it is not so pleasant when you get a letter telling you that you owe that sort of figure Enjoy! Ain't Nobody Here
Seems I was wise not to count my chickens . Cheque for £685.64 arrived today. Looking again at all the forms I can now see that the form for each year included the rebate for the previous year. Why they couldn't have made it all slightly easier to make sense of, I don't know . Still, almost £700 is still a nice little windfall and will pay for a new widescreen TV .
abwsco
Shame it's not for more ANH but enjoy your new TV

Olly
Well, I bet you felt a bit compared to the earlier figure ... but it's still a really nice windfall! Enjoy the new TV.
kazmac
Don't get me started about HMRC!!!! I'm currently dealing with them via my MP because of a battle I've been locked in with them re self assessment. I had already sorted this out with them, again through my MP funnily enough, and then they started up again with the same damn thing. It's a living nightmare at the minute and they've changed my tax code this year with my employer for my full time job to recover the money they seem to think I owe them, which I DON'T!!! My stress levels are barely manageable. And today I come home from work to a letter from them saying I paid too much tax in 2005/06 and a cheque for £26?????? Incompetent idiots
