I did needle felting

Recommended Posts

Yesterday, our craft group did a whole days needle felting with Tutor Ruth Packham. Her stuff is amazing!

One made an owl, one made a sea bird, another a penguin, someone else made a dog & the rest of us made hares.

There was a bit of cursing when the needles stabbed us, but generally we all managed to make something. Mine is rather a fat looking hare & since coming home, I have re done the front legs - as mine looked more like a kangaroo!!!

Just the ears, eyes & whiskers to add then I'll post a piccy.

It's very therapeutic & addictive, so the needle felting kit & fibres I got ages ago for flat felting will now be creating some 3D things. Things other than a ladybird I made yonks ago.

Congratulations - sounds like you now have the bug. Its a hobby I picked up a couple of year's ago - I mainly make miniature teddies, although haven't had time to do one for a few months. Daughter is nagging for one! It is very satisfying to see them take shape knowing that you can add and take away.

I've had a go, and you can listen to the radio, but not watch TV when doing this!! Blood was spilt!! I made some flowers, some santas', a mushroom.. I have the stuff to do more, but have to finish some UFO's before doing anything else:(

Now you're going to get us all started again Emma, I've not done any since my furball robin. I did pick up sheep fur as I was out walking last weekend thinking this will wash and make the start of something.

You could make a whole zoo!

I'd like to have a go at a miniature teddie or mushroom 8)

I had a go a couple of weeks ago at a workshop, and stabbed my finger which bled quite a lot. I made a purple penguin (it was supposed to be an owl  ) and it contains my DNA!

It's something I've been meaning to have a go at for a long time and it was very relaxing. I have a lot of fibre, as I started learning to spin a couple of months ago. I also have a lot of what I think is cat hair - there is a large and very fluffy cat which comes in the house overnight and plays with our cats' toys and I find piles of fur lying around in the morning. Not sure this would felt very well though...

No no machine. This is 3D needle felting using a foam sponge block & a single barbed needle plus your ' fluff'.

You just get your carded wool fibres (fluff), hold it in a sort of ball & stab away. You keep turning it, so it doesn't stick to the foam block. Eventually it takes shape into whatever you want to work it into. For the hare, you start with a large cone shape body.

I only have the eyes & whiskers to add now, then he's done. I then need to order some more fibres.
