What you need is a nice sharp bbq skewer to pierce the ball where your dogs canine teeth would hold the ball then keep sending deflated balls back - they will give up when all of their balls get trashed

 

Sadly Daisy is too old to kill a ball - she wouldn't even see it anyway, a pin hole would be much harder to spot not that I'd ever do that of course

my next door neighbours toddler grandson wanted to cool down one of my cats as it "looked hot" by putting it in the paddling pool Thankfully his Bampa realised in time and said that cats keep cool by lying in the garden slabs and it was ok

As a mum of 3 boys,who don't play quietly, especially after being cooped up in school all day, reading through this thread has made me feel more guilty about the noise they make than I did before. I would still rather them run around in the garden in this nice weather than be sat inside watching telly or playing computer games.

 

Their footballs do go over the fence occasionally, by accident. I've never allowed them to go and knock the door for them as I feel that disturbs the neighbours more, they just have to wait until they're thrown back.

 

Luckily our neighbours are very understanding. On one side of us they have 2 children a little bit older and on the other side they don't have children but like to have their music on pretty loud whilst sat in the garden & have BBQs.

 

My boys would never be rude to the neighbours though or deliberately, repeatedly kick the ball against the fence.

All children need to let off steam, but there is steam, and a downright volcano of racket and impoliteness.

These neighbours also park their huge van in the turnaround of our cul de sac, making it extremely difficult for other road users.

They think they own the place. They argue with the neighbours opposite them too.

 

Nevermind, they have been out this afternoon and it has been extremely peaceful. But I still would rather live in a field with sheep and cows.

Ah so it's not just me that has this problem then? Thankfully the kids round here are pretty quiet, just the normal playing noises which I don't mind at all.

However the house that backs onto the end of our garden is a bit of a nuisance. It's occupied by an elderly, semi deaf chap who has lived the for about the last 100 years. It used to be a farm before the land was sold off and our little development built, now he has the house and large garden which he uses as an allotment. His family come round to help with the gardening... Which they all do regularly... At 1000 decibels. Apparently talking at a normal volume is impossible, they all have to shout at each other. When our houses were built, he asked for 4ft fences topped with trellis between his garden and the new ones so he could chat to the neighbours through the fence. What this actually means is no peace and quiet in my own garden as there is constant traffic through his, including people putting cameras through the fence to take photos of my chickens. Yes, this has really happened!

He's also not on a water meter, so all the family come round to wash their cars, which is fair enough. But one young lad washes his car at least twice a week, with music blaring out. Nothing pleasant, but the kind of music that sounds like people being sick down a microphone accompanied by heavy guitars Added to this the old chap has now had his shed converted to a sitting room with record player. Last night I was serenaded by the Bee Gees at maximum volume!

I do sound like a miserable old madam, but I don't begrudge anyone the enjoyment of their own garden, honestly I don't. I just wish people would take others into consideration when they decide to make so much noise! I find it very difficult to enjoy my own garden with so much noise and people constantly walking past my fence and peering through.

Your situation sounds very miserable... and I know (from suffering with an inconsiderate neighbour, thankfully now moved) that once these things have started to be a problem, every incident makes it worse.

 

Could you put up a new, 6ft, fence between you and him? If it's your boundary, you could replace his 'low fence with trellis' with a solid fence. If it's not your boundary, you could just put up another fence on your side.

 

If money is a problem, then you could buy some roll-up fence covering, 6 foot high, and put that up on your side. It isn't as good as a proper fence, but it does make a difference. For additional privacy, you could staple a length of weed control fabric over the trellis part of his fence, before you put your roll-up stuff up.

 

Or, if your garden is big enough, you could plant ...deep breath,...Leylandii along the fence line. I wouldn't normally wish Leylandii on anyone, but it might be worth doing them in your case. And the chooks can use them as shelter when its hot.

Laurel is good too - I have a 20ft one at the bottom of my garden to stop the pondlife who live there from coming into my garden and poking their noses into my life The grumpy old boy who lives next door plays VERY loud organ music CDs, or end-of-the-pier type dance music; he is profoundly deaf and for some reason thinks that the rest of the neighbourhood needs to hear it It's less of an issue for me now as I no longer go home to eat my lunch outdoors, but the rest of the neighbours get the worst of it. We are consoling ourselves that he probably hasn't got a lot longer with us and we'll soon be spared his ill-tempered and racist ranting, and his music.

DM - that sounds awful! Have you thought of contacting the environmental dept at the Local Council and making a complaint? They would then send you a form to log the noise nucisance and also contact the culprit to say they had received a complaint (tho they do not say from whom.) Usually this is enough to at least tone down the prob, if not stop it altogether; apparently its rare for things to have to go further.

 

We are surrounded by people who think its just fine to impose their taste in music on everyone else and you can't help having the windows open in this weather!

I think all the neighbours have complained over the past few years and the old boy has given them lip back - he hasn't spoken to me (apart from grunts) for the last 10 years Everyone else in our street gets on really well, and are generally respectful of each other. The general consensus is not to bother with the authorities as he's not got long to go.... yesterday we had our street party and had a(subdued) band playing, everyone (except him was in attendance, so that's about 200 people. He bought his CD player out to the road and turned it up full pelt.. someone went and explained to him that this wasn't allowed.

have to say for the first time in a long time we have nice neighbours. We have a yappy dog oposite but my chucks bok loudly so I keep quiet. The only nosiey is across the road with his motorbikes - if i could i would insert them somewhere unmentionable as he revs them. Must muck up the engines. Been there with nasty neighbours - one child used to throw jam jars at my then toddler till heavily pregnant and full of hormones I did the fishwife bit and bawled at her. The people behind our house and one house to the left (so directly behind our neighbours ) make lots of noise....out in the garden every evening talking as though they were all deaf! NDN (who is nice, usually very quiet middle aged lady) had her grandchildren visiting this ev and they were playing football in her garden and shrieking and shouting so loudly that the noisy folk directly behind her gave up and went in; poetic justice, methinks

Sadly it's not our fence or it would have been replaced long ago! I wouldn't want to plant anything thick along that fence as our garden is only 9x9m and a thick hedge would take up a lot of space.

 

So far we've stuck a greenhouse in front of one part of it, it doesn't obstruct his view but does make conversation difficult and we're in the process of building a WIR along the rest of the length of that fence. I feel it may require willow screening on that side to protect the chooks from sun/wind/rain/whatever!

 

I do feel a bit mean as he's basically a nice chap, but at the same time I don't really enjoy people popping their head over the fence willy nilly and especially not so loudly!

Our fence, that is our neighbours boundary,needed replacing recently & we offered to go halves if we could make it higher & more secure. It too used to be a 'pop your head over' job, & it used to really bug me.

Lavenders Blue......pyracantha can be kept quite thin but can get quite tall and is really prickly.

This might help keep those sticky beaks out of your garden.

I think I'd rather listen to that than smell the smoke of someones bonfire they lit in the middle of the day yesterday. AND I had my washing out, as I'm sure lots of others did too.

All builders need a soundtrack Sarah, you should know that we have some in at work at the moment and they've been asked to keep the music down to a dull roar.

 

One of the tenants in the HA houses at the back has been playing loud music most of the last few days. There have been problems with this bloke before ans i understand that he has 'issues' this doesn't really endear him to what is normally a pretty peaceful neighbourhood. A friend a few doors down has reported him as the music and drinking led to foul-mouthed monologues and he had to keep his children indoors.
