Diana1
Hello my fellow chicken lovers - please advise on this sore underbelly
Chickabee
I'm guessing you've checked for mites. Poor thing. You could try sudo cream. It's a cure all. Have you got a different type of bedding recently ? I think I would try washing her with week baby shampoo, then once she's dry try sudo cream, but see if any one else has any suggestions first
Chickabee
Just a though, not sure if it's safe for chickens to ingest sudo cream. What about sore nipple cream. It's viscous and if it's ok for newborns, it must be ok for chickens
Diana1
There are no mites. i had thought of sudo cream or even vaseline. Advice from friends was that it might pick up dirt and get infected. What do you think it is?
Diana1
Bedding is the same as always - straw
Plum
She's moulted look at those spikes feathers growing around the area. The skin goes red when exposed to air. If mine I wouldn't do anything just make sure bedding and nest box are clean so there's no ammonia
Lavenders_Blue
I've got one like that at the moment - a bald tummy in exactly the same spot as yours and a little bald patch at the top of her neck. I thought it was a moult, but she's been like this for weeks and not lost any more feathers
Diana1
Right I'm onto the clean bedding as this might be the problem - they do poo a lot in the nesting box where they roost. She has been like it for quite a while. Thanks for your help
daxigirl
So undignified, bless her.
