Lavenders_Blue
They are LHR girls aren't they? I picked up 3 today and funnily enough I have named mine after singers too - Florence (and the machine), Jessie (J) and Adele. I was originally going to call them Kourtney, Kim and Khloe but hubby said no! Where did you collect yours from?
Chickabee
Manea, Cambridge
Lavenders_Blue
I picked mine up from there too. Last time I collected hens from Manea I was offered a horse as well... So hubby was slightly on tenterhooks when we went today (he needn't have worried, there didn't appear to be any horses on offer today )
Chickabee
Do you give yours anything special. Mine are on crumb, they've got cider vinegar in their water and I gave them some mixed corn tonight which has grit and poultry spice in it.Also separate grit. I will of course give the s"Ooops, word censored!"s too
gavclojak
Don't want to come over all patronising but good in you guys for giving these lucky girls a chance of a happy and free retirement, I am so proud of my ex cage fighter girls
redsunset
That is just lovely. The difference is them in the coming weeks will be just amazing.
Lavenders_Blue
No I don't give them anything extra. They get a splash of lifeguard in their water, but just bog standard layers mash and no treats. They need all the goodness from their mash to help them build up strength and re feather and I find it takes a while before they really know what treats are anyway. There's plenty of time for treats later - at the moment it's novelty enough for them just to be able to stretch their wings and get their feet dirty. This is my 3rd lot of ex batts - I bought some hybrids from a breeder last year but to be honest I haven't found them any more robust than the batties, so it's retired girls all the way for me from now on
Chickabee
No treats for the bat ties yet then. Thanks for the advice
Lavenders_Blue
Well one of my new girls appears to have a death wish - she has spent most of the morning so far pacing furiously up and down the run divide trying to get in with the old girls. She's going to be a feisty one, but not yet little one, you will have to be patient!
Purplemaniacs
Glad you are enjoying your ex bats L_B. It sounds like you have a real character there I only have one ex batt left now out of my three, I do like ex bats. Agnes is lovely and a great egg layer too, better than most of the hybrids. Have we seen any photos yet? Sorry if I have missed them. Chrissie
Chickabee
1st egg today. And they've learned how to go up and owned ladder. Going to make their run a little bigger today so maybe I'll get some better photos
gavclojak
Your gonna have your hand full with that diva....bless her though, with all the stress she must have been through yesterday she is still pouting away... my girls were shell shocked for the first few days....come to think of it so was I
Chickabee
Actually got 3 eggs. Here's a picture of one of the girls The others are really shy, but boy do they eat a lot

jimnpaula
Oooo bless their poor pale faces, forgot how bad my girls looked until I looked at day 1's photos of their sad little faces and flaccid combs:((( I was going to say something very similar! My current collection of rescue girls are still going strong and I don't have room for more just yet.
Lavenders_Blue
Here's a couple of (not very good) photos of my new girls. Bless them, I got 3 eggs today and they all put themselves to bed this evening. Clever girlies! Feisty Florence (who appears to be eager to meet the oldies) has been very mean to the other new girls. If she doesn't start behaving she will get chucked in with the old girls to get a taste of her own medicine! ETA: Trying to resize... But not sure how successfully I have managed this! Chickabee
Yeah ! They've all learnt how to go to bed . Somebody could have warned me how much they eat. I guess that when they're in their cages that's all they know to do. Can't wait til they can free range. Lovely girls keep giving me eggs
Lavenders_Blue
How are your chookies doing, Sonya? Mine have been eating and drinking for England and looking really quite strong. In the middle of the week I found feisty Florence on the wrong side of the run divide with the 3 old girls cowering at the end of the run! Today I decided to mingle them. There's been a bit of chasing and pecking, but the newbies have held their own well, and it's not been very bad. There's plenty of food and water to go round, so I think it will all settle down in a couple of days. I took the plunge today as I have a couple of days off work to supervise the mingling. Chickabee
I've been on holiday for a week, so mine haven't been out, until today. They are having a wonderful time. Their bottoms aren't as red anymore and their combs are gradually changing colour
Lavenders_Blue
It's lovely to see them getting stronger and healthier, isn't it?
Chickabee
Well, they've really made themselves at home. They are loving the garden and are busy digging holes (I try to blame the dogs). One of them actually sat on the lawn mower whilst it was in use on Saturday Still eating me out of house and home, but I don't mind. They are lovely, funny girls
Chickabee
The divas are doing really well. There's no grass left in their run, but they do get out "accidentally" sometimes. 2 or 3 eggs most days, and they're big.
