theherd123
Oh crikey! If i were you i would share your 'wish list' with Jase. The wish list should contain at least all of the following and a few more you can think of; 10 sheep 8 cows 5 goats 3 pigs and 6 chickens The master plan will work if he says ditch everything else and you can have the chooks! Problem solved and you simply have to have a pink cube!

Am neededing to move it up a stage now though... Do you think if i ask for an elephant he'll let me have a cow?!

Scary Mary
Hang on Christian, Speaking as the worlds most stubborn taurean - don't sulk whatever you do - it really is the proverbial red rag to the bull!!! What would work with me is as follows.... Don't mention any new chickens for at least two weeks, just relax and enjoy the girls, they are great fun at this time of year, mine were chasing a grasshopper the other day Then plan a really nice day out - maybe the bankholiday weekend, lunch somewhere with good food lovely setting etc followed by a trip in the afternoon to your nearest place with lots of lovely chooks - my guess is that he'd be so mellow by then that he'll suggest getting some new girls and all you'll have to do is get the order in nice and quick Good luck Mary

AJuff
I felt fortunate to have insisted we get two more hens and a run extension, which I have got. BUT, now what I'd really like is a cube! How can I justify a cube? What lame excuses for one can I make to OH?
Christian
just say you need more eggs! OH eats nearly all the eggs we get, I use some for baking, but he has them all poached! I can't eat breakfast first thing so usually go without. I think Babs has stopped laying for good, Laverne is a 3-6 eggs per week girl and Shirley lays like a trooper. I keep giving the eggs away, hoping we will run out and have to get more chickens. I even had to 'borrow' 4 from AnnieP yesterday! Got an email from Dilly yesterday about her new bantams, read it out to OH and he just !!!!!! Think I will leave it for a while and just drop the odd hint. Good luck AJuff!!! fourfinches
I'd dropped several not too subtle hints about more chickens & cubes without any success. We were in the garden watching the girls & OH said it would be good to have more chickens - I couldn't get to the phone quick enough to order our cube; I didn't want to give him any time to change his mind! Christian
Well.................I am making progress! I think. We were chatting about the girls the other day and i said about getting some more in the Spring. He said 'we'll see'! i went into one like a spoilt brat, saying 'Mum used to say that when she meant NO' 'I don't mean it like your Mum' he said! Progress????? Egluntyne
Sounds like it. Why don't you buy him some for Christmas. He'll be thrilled. You can let him pick the names.

Dancing Gal
Christian much as I would like to say 'go for it' and just get the chooks I think it would be best if you respect OH's feelings on the matter. Just think how you would feel if you felt strongly about something and he did completely the opposite. You'd be hurt that he hadn't respected what you had to say. I'm sure that with patience you will get him to come around to your way of thinking. He's obviously upset about what happened and he needs a bit of time to get used to it. Are you able to rope in any of the 'shocked neighbours' in to chook sitting when you are away? Perhaps the thought of somebody being on hand to keep an eye on the girls would make him feel a bit better about getting more. I think its natural to say 'no more' when you lose a pet. When my beloved cat Norma died last year we vowed never to get anything else. But with time you change your mind don't you. A pet lover is a pet lover is a pet lover. Christian
I would never just get them with talking it through with him.....We have agreed on that. He knows I wouldn't do that. I can totally see his point of view. I was really upset the last time i had to go to work and leave poorly Babs in the run. My neighbours are fantastic and if they know we are both away overnight, they let the girls out and lock them up again at night. We couldn't be without them. He says my middle name is 'Patience' (which it so isn't) , but I guess I will have to be over this. Spring is always a good time to get more chickens anyway! Thanks for your thoughts.
