Egluntyne
This is supposed to make it easier. ~Click~
Olly
Interesting - I admit to never peeling it, I just bake it cut in half and scoop the flesh out but this would be good for recipes where I don't want to bake it.
Ain't Nobody Here
I'll add that to my list of vegetables which benefit from microwaving! Now 2 in the list, aubergines and butternut squash .
Luvachicken
Ooohhh good, something to make it easier, but unfortunately you still have to cut off the ends, which I find hard. Do you think it would work if you pricked it more and left the ends on ?
kinsk
I always end up with cuts at the ball of my thumb when peeling butternut squash where the peeler suddenly shoots down and hits my hand.
bluekarin
Brilliant! I always get a layer of orange on my hands when peeling them, so hopefully this will stop that from happening
Ain't Nobody Here
Bought a butternut squash today so will try this out tonight .
Alis girls
Having cut my hand badly earlier this yr when battling a BN squash I was told by the nurse in casualty an Afrocarribean lady I should use a potato peeler - she roared with laughter whilst stitching my hand back together I was not impressed by the lack of sympathy to a fellow nurse but smiled thro gritted teeth. Please be careful these BN squashes are the thugs of the squash family - they fight back
Alis girls
Just off to try this
Daphne
It sounds like a brilliant idea to me I've just read a recipe involving grating a butternut squash - can you imagine the casualties
Alis girls
Worked a treat - although my Lidls BN was a big boy and couldve done with a minute or two longer. All fingers etc intact. Thank you Eglutyne from my OH who blanches whenever he sees one of these monsters lurking on the worktop - as the sight of our bloodied kitchen will live in his memory for ever
Valkyrie
Glad it worked and no injuries! I tend to cut mine in half so that the seeds are still in one end and cut off the ends. I then have a huge, but short bladed knife and slice downwards onto the chopping board with the fattest end of the squash on the bottom. I've not had any problem as the knife is really sharp (DD's set of knives from her catering college days). But microwaving it sounds like a very good idea that should be tested in this household too
